    Bad running after manual swap

An ICM issue makes completes sense. The exact nature of the issue (internal fault; poor external connection; infant mortality) would be nice to know.

    Repairing ac system

What I would do is - drain the oil from the compressor (the Sanden doc attached gives generic instructions for draining) - measure the amount drained from the compressor - assume 0.5oz will remain in the compressor after draining - add the above two values, that's the total oil charge...

    Bad running after manual swap

I hope this all works out and you find it's a problem in the dizzy. Is the coil wire making good contact with the center electrode? Sorry for the late reply, I've been out all day and am just getting to reading your remarks.

AC Controls Fan not working on Hi

@HoffmansHaven, while you're at it, take a look at that relay that controls "high" operation. See if the relay's getting power as it should, and works as it should. @east302, thanks for posting that wiring diagram.

    Alternators

Sounds like GM mighta known what they were doing when they installed the struts to provide additional support to the alternators. Hangin' a big-ol' AD244 on that brittle bracket w/o a strut is... everyone's personal choice.

@L31MaxExpress has made a number of posts regarding the marine intake, if you haven't read through them you might do so.

    Repairing ac system

A few things can happen: - The system breathes, e.g., through barometric pressure changes as well as simple air exchange - "Exposure to the elements"... the condenser is in front, exposed while driving to rain - The oil is hygroscopic, meaning it has an affinity for water, so once the...

^^^ yup And if you can close the valves and let the vehicle sit, do so. Leave it overnight. The vacuum should stay unwavering at the same value when you return the next day. If not, you've likely got a leak or you had some residual water / flush that vaporized in that time. Find and fix the...

    Repairing ac system

Good question. Refrigerant oil is clear unless it's had dye added to it, and then it's green-ish. I'm interested to hear what others say, as I've not seen it that color.

    Repairing ac system

This ^^^ When your system blew-down through that hole, it may have carried quite a bit of out oil (GM speaks to the rapid blow-down situation in their FSM in the AC section on oil balancing).

    Suspension parts questions

Half-shaft boots look new. UCA ball joints look to have been replaced before, I see bolts instead of rivets. Boot is torn on the LCA ball joint. From the looks of the cotter pin on the LCA ball joint I might guess that the castle nut's been R&R at some prior time, at least.

    Alternators

As I remember, on the 1995 and earlier trucks either OE alternator (~100 or ~125A) had one strut from the alternator to an exhaust manifold stud, and possibly another from the alternator to the intake manifold, to add stability. GM evidently didn't believe that bracket could hold either...

It'll be interesting to see how he bills his time. Interesting twist regarding the cigarette lighter, I wonder how that's a dependency  and yet he hadn't noticed it wasn't operational. Certain people are good at certain things, and passable -- at best -- at others. Maybe he'd be...

    Help with relocation

Vehicle? Present compressor? Any other relevant information? Just a guess: You've got a 1996 or later 5.7L/SBC vehicle w/o rear air, using an OE-style HT6 compressor mounted on the engine top, driver's side. An LS conversion w/OE brackets would put the compressor on the passenger's side, down...

1999 L31 Engine with nearly 260k, Timing chain plus what else?

Evidently it’s a pretty good chain noise dampener, based on @Danimal08’s comments about the metal Holley cover (and I’m assuming a stamped steel cover would be similar, could be wrong about that). At least in my case the same plastic cover has served well for 26 years and 265kmi, as it’s never...

I checked today, and Car Scanner displays the transmission temp (it’s running on my iPhone). No additional fees or in-app purchases were required other than the one-time fee ($7 maybe… small enough that I don’t remember). Ambient temps were in the 60s and I had just returned home from a...

I routinely use the "right-hand-rule" to confirm direction when I'm in doubt... which is often, when I'm in odd situations like yours. But... I gotta remember to use my right hand. I've used my left at least once and that didn't work well. I replaced an alternator and forgot to connect the...

But then he said: So was the last of the three the "silent type"? Was that the Cloyes C3017 chain? And it's no longer noisy? I like the story but there's a bit of ambiguity. For example, I read this: So the first Cloyes set, which was new (yes?) and reportedly noisy (yes?), is a "bad chain"?

Sorry, I'm a bit confused. Earlier you said: So, if I understand, you tried two chains, one of which was a new Cloyes, and yet you still heard chain noise. Yes? Then... So you tried a 3rd Cloyes chain (C3017) and you're reporting that it's better now. Yes? So the other two chains, one...
