Still got stupid belt water pump chirp sound

When I recently changed the belt on my 1998, the new one was about 1/16" wider than the old one. The water pump pulley had worn down after so many miles and with a wider belt, the squeaking was driving me crazy. I tried to sand down the old pulley and even out the surface size with no luck. Had...

    What headers for 7.4?

Having put dozens of sets of headers on vehicles in my time, I can state with some authority that if price is your deciding factor, stay with the stock manifolds. A cheap header is usually not designed or constructed well. You won't gain any horsepower, it will leak, flake, rust, crack, and need...

    What oil do you use?

I run Amsoil in all my engines. My '98 C2500 ran fairly low oil pressure(10 psi at idle, 40 at rpm) when I bought it with 50,000 miles on it. I put Amsoil in and it went back up to 30 and 70 like I'm used to seeing on V8 engines.

What Would Ya'll do to Equip a Vehicle for Towing?

The shop flush machines (at least mine) uses the machine to exchange fluid, but the vehicle is running to circulate all of the fluid. It doesn't move dirt to other places, it removes it. If you put any load on your rig, do this every 20,000 miles and your transmission will be happy and healthy.

    Custom made shop tools

Not a truck tool, but I think it qualifies. The new Indian Motorcycle (big bikes) use the engine as a stressed frame component. Due to this configuration, there are exposed brake lines and linkages underneath that the standard (motorcycle)jack frames will rest on. A few companies sell...

    Transmission Fluid Question (With Pictures)

Having the tranny professionally flushed is your best option. They back-flush and exchange all of the fluid, removing any contaminates at the same time.

    Lost clutch

No pedal pressure? Then your clutch master or slave cylinder is shot. If the plate is not making contact with the flywheel and pressure plate, then the springs in the pressure plate are shot or the pressure plate is rusted through. I've never heard of a pressure plate failing in the disengaged...

    Lost clutch

If you have pressure on the pedal, then the clutch plate is rusted to the flywheel. If you drive it, it will probably eventually break free.

    1994 C3500 350 Spun rod bearing

Any TBI 350 will work. There's no difference in a 1500 350 and a 3500 350. A passenger car 350 may have 2 bolt mains, but even that will work just fine in your truck.

    Oil pressure high?

Even if something was blocked, I doubt that you would see any measurable increase. New, different oil and filter can account for some rise, but with the extreme change that you're seeing, I suspect a bad sending unit or gauge.

    Oil Leak

Losing around a quart every 1000 miles, why do an oil change? You're replacing it as fast as a normal oil change. Throw a new filter on it and find the leak first.

Rebuilding 350 vortec, what all should I do?

It sounds like you've started out the right way. Learn, read, watch, absorb as much info as you can. I've rebuilt dozens of SBC engines for street and ovals. It's not hard, but you have to pay attention and be meticulous. "It'll work" will NOT work. Do it right on every single step. SBC motors...

Ever wonder what half a million dollars worth of Indian Motorcycles looks like? Two local Indian Motorcycle Riders Groups met for lunch in Laurel Hill, Florida today. There were 23 bikes in all.

    Brake Bleeding Machines/Tools

Very good point, Shurkey. Pressurizing with ambient air will contaminate the fluid before it even goes in. However, a 4 gallon split tank is just overkill for me. At any rate, you have my tinkering mind going into overdrive now. I think that I can make one. If not a diaphragm separated tank, I...

    Brake Bleeding Machines/Tools

Okay folks, I'm probably older than most of you and have been bleeding brakes manually for years and years. I see and hear about machines that will do a fluid flush on the brake system and/or bleed them with less effort than the old way and need some advice. For a home mechanic and maybe part...
