About to bring another one home.

I think I’m going to do a compression test to see how healthy the engine is. On a 4.3 with 145k, what should the numbers be in an ideal situation?

About to bring another one home.

We don’t get enough snow to justify a plow lol. Might make a good woods truck for the 450 acres my family owns

The last guy did, I personally haven’t messed with it yet.

About to bring another one home.

Update. So according to my dad the thing was totally submerged, so this truck is probably a write off. Sucks to see a good truck die, but I guess we can’t save them all.

So you’re saying there’s a chance…. lol man I didn’t know glass was that high for these.

About to bring another one home.

I get that. I’ll pull the fuses and relays and see if there is any signs of corrosion. I’ve been working on vehicles for the better part of 25 years so I have a good idea of what to look at and for before I jump off the deep end. But, this will be my second attempt at something that’s been sunk...

About to bring another one home.

I don’t know how deep the truck went. I’ve been told that the last guy changed the fluids and tried to get it running, that it would turn over but wouldn’t fire. That’s about the best I can give ya because that’s all I know. I do wish the guy hadn’t smacked the front with a tractor, but what can...

About to bring another one home.

Last couple. Pretty sure the air filter housing is in the cab. Like I said, complete except for the rear glass. The tailgate is in the bed, but probably to beat to be used.

Few more pics, interior isn’t terrible other than being farm truck, pond water dirty.

About to bring another one home.

Hey all, been a member since I bought my 97 k1500 Cheyenne, but sold it to my dad not too long after that and have been back. Now, I’ve got another 98 k1500 begging me to bring it home. It’s a W/T, short bed single cab. It’s rough, but fairly low miles at 145k. 4.3, automatic and of course 4x4...

    Speedometer reads way too fast

I didn’t, I just stopped by the parts store on a whim and bought the premium offering. I still might order the ac delco one just for kicks

    Speedometer reads way too fast

Well I put a new 195 thermostat in today and now the gauge reads about where east302’s pic does up there. It’s an improvement but not by much. It did warm up faster so maybe it wasn’t a complete waste of $10.

    Speedometer reads way too fast

I may pull the old one out and test it. I would like to get this taken care of before it gets butt numb cold here. Another question, any way to change the cluster bulbs out? Looks like the new one has a bulb out, and by looking at my old one it looks like the bulbs just twist and pull out. But I...

    97 Cheyenne arm rest

I may have to go that route eventually. The one that I found still isn’t in great shape, the plastic that holds the shape underneath is cracked up pretty bad.

    Speedometer reads way too fast

I’ve read about swapping the odometers around but I wasn’t sure I wanted to get that involved. The new one reads about 24k higher than actual, the original is at 195k and the new one is at 219k. It’s only an issue if I ever sell the truck which I don’t plan to. As far as the temp goes, both...

    Speedometer reads way too fast

Just out of curiosity though, if it was stuck open would the heat still work properly? The thing has a great heater in it even running at 160.

    Speedometer reads way too fast

Im thinking about replacing the thermostat and seeing if I can get it to run a little hotter. But then again it’s doing fine as is, maybe I should leave it alone lol.

    Speedometer reads way too fast

I finally got this fixed I think. My dad found a cluster from a v6 truck, it said 95 model on the rear of the cluster. I wasn’t sure it would work but I swapped it anyway and everything including the speedo seems to work properly now. Odometer has the wrong mileage now and the gauges are faded...

    97 Cheyenne arm rest

I got lucky and found a grey pair in the junkyard. They don’t really match my red interior but I’ll take what I can get. These things sure are flimsy compared to the power door models.

    97 Cheyenne arm rest

Does anyone know of a source for these?? My Cheyenne has manual windows and locks, so the arm rests are a little different. I have a red interior as well. LMC doesn't show any, and I've not had any luck in the local wrecking yards. Anyone have an idea?

    Speedometer reads way too fast

Thank you blackwater for that in depth response. I've driven the truck for about 150 miles now, trying to get all the readings for it to pass inspection. It hasn't been on the road since 2015. The tach reads correctly. The gas gauge and oil pressure gauge aren't 100% accurate, temp only goes up...

    Speedometer reads way too fast

Well the cruise control works, and unhooking the battery for 30 minutes did nothing. Looks like I need a new cluster. I will check the grounds, but with my luck it probably won't be that simple.

    Speedometer reads way too fast

Thanks, that's where I'll start tomorrow. Need to top off the transmission fluid before I drive it anymore, found out it was a bit low and I definitely don't want hurt it.

    Speedometer reads way too fast

So a quick test for the VSS would be the cruise control? If it works then it's good, if the cruise doesn't work, then it's bad? I haven't had the chance to try the cruise. I'm not getting a SEL either.
