    BIG Transmission fluid leak

If you got leaks and slippage at the same time, check for a broken output shaft or bad splines (might also have grinding noises, idk). put a dial indicator on yoke or shaft and check for side to side play. I forget how much play is ok, but there is a well known twin charlotte article about 4l60e...

    Another TBI running rich

I don't really know as much about this as the others, but I'll throw out some ideas: -Check with a vacuum gage while running. I don't remember a lot of details, but you can tell a lot about engine health by how the needle moves- I would do a thorough test for vacuum leaks as they are common on...

Tapping/ knocking noise on start up

Not a big expert, but I'l give you my .02. Sounds internal, could be rod or lifter. You could drop the oil pan and check for play in the rods and you could remove the valve covers and check for anything unusual looking. Might also be helpful to use a dial indicator to measure lift- if one valve...

    Replacement Jack?

In the big junkyards like LKQ, I think they take the jacks out and keep them in a separate bin to sell up at the office (prevents people from using jacks in the self service yard to reduce their liability). Ask them if they have any spare tire jacks, they probably have a whole heap of them somewhere

    Additional brake booster

Wow, I've never heard of any such thing. If you can figure out how that whole system works, I'd be very interested to know

    Truck does not start.

Click, no crank, and the lights dim when you turn the key? Sounds like the motor is locked up- have you considered that possibility? Try turning it over with a breaker bar at the crank pulley. If the motor is not locked up, then it is probably your starter because the dimming lights is proof...

    Shift Light Manual Swapped Suburban

I'd think upshift is based on three things: VSS, engine speed, and clutch engagement. If speedo and tach work, check the clutch switches. Probably the one at the top of the clutch travel, but it wouldn't hurt to check the one at the bottom too

No headlights when I press brakes.

Yes post a picture. In all the trucks I've owned (88 k2500, 92 c1500, 2000 silverado 1500, 1991 K2500 w/ hydroboost), I can't recall any wires coming out of a brake booster. Some of them had an ABS module below the master cylinder, but there were not any wires near the brake booster unless...

Oil dripping off of the starter.

The trans lines could have a pinhole leak and be spraying on something. If it's dirty enough, it might be hard to tell the color. Just something I thought of since I replaced some 4L80E lines recently (they weren't leaking yet, but thought it would be good to do while motor was out). Not sure if...

    loose gear shifter

Well, a lot of problems are due to a loose nut behind the steering wheel. Your case just happened to be much more literal than usual

Need help 98 5.7 just dead and I'm clueless.

Hook up test leads to starter solenoid and see if there is the constant 12v on the big wire from the battery. If yes, check if small wire has 12 v when attempting to crank. If yes, you either have a bad starter or bad engine/starter ground connection. You could try tapping on the solenoid to see...

ABS kicks in at low speeds...Driving me insane.

Yeah, I have a 2000 silverado 1500 (GMT800) that did this. I just pulled the fuse. One of the hubs has been replaced since, so who knows, it might work, but I don't care. If the other hub ever goes out, I may try putting the fuse back in after that, but I'm hoping that doesn't happen

1991 6.2 diesel- need diagram/pic on how to mount PS pump

I'm doing an engine swap on a 1991 6.2 diesel truck (serpentine belt style) and I forgot how the brackets mount up for the power steering pump. Anybody got a pic or diagram? Was having trouble finding on google

    6.2 engine swap/fix general questions- 1991 K2500

The coolant crossover is similar, but the '91 has the thermostat facing up with an elbow directing it forward, and the replacement blazer engine has the thermostat facing forward with a straight output. It may be close enough to work, but they are not 100% identical. It's the same engine, but...

    6.2 engine swap/fix general questions- 1991 K2500

UPDATE, NEW QUESTION ABOUT SWAP I got the old one out with the TC on it. was tricky, needed fan off and had to tilt it to get TC past upper firewall, but it worked. Engine was FUBAR, not quite sure what happened completely but #8 piston appears to have FOD and melting and a hole burnt though it...

    6.2 engine swap/fix general questions- 1991 K2500

Thanks for the advice. I'm confident that the tranny is 4L80E though- the shift selector shows P R N OD D 2 1 and it looks beefier than the 4L60/700r4. Novak adapters confirms 1991 was the first year for 4L80E, interesting article

    6.2 engine swap/fix general questions- 1991 K2500

I bought a 1991 K2500 that was smoking from exhuast, oil cap, etc, sucking in upper rad hose, but running. I made a bad call to drive it home and it's now locked up. 6.2 diesel NA, automatic trans that I assume is 4L80E. I'm working on pulling components to either do a swap or out-of-frame...
