    Need advice/convincing

Just picked up a rust-free 93 C1500. I was planning on a low - budget 305/700r4 in it since it is going to be a daily. A few owners ago it went carb. The harness was cut up. Long story short, it would almost be easier to go 5.3/4l60e than back to TBI. This is really a no brain project but I'm...

what automatic transmission would be in a 1995 GMT400

More than likely the 3-4 clutches but I could be wrong. The 4L60e is the same as a 700r4 except for the valve body. I believe 93 was the introduction to solenoid shifting and then 95 was when they introduced the pulse width modulated torque converter lockup. The 700r4/4L60e is not junk...

    Lifting a Cab

If you do a search on YouTube there are a few designs you can go from based on that. I've see one that was mounted to the top of a hoist arm and lifted on the top of the door jambs, the other where they mounted an eye-bolt where they guessed the center of gravity would be in the floor of the...

Truck decides to misfire the day my kid is born.

Congratulations, the next year will be the fastest year of your life(if it's your first). Wish I had some experience with that setup but it sounds like you are on the right track. I would start with the fuel pressure and leak down test. So far you've ruled out just about all of the ignition.

Repainting my entire truck (frame and body, pictures)

I guess I should have said PTFE, not Teflon. Had to work around a lot of steam at one of my previous jobs and anti seize would just get cooked/washed out. Started using PTFE Thread Sealant and no more issues. Since then I have been using that when doing any work under the vehicle. Never know...

    Home-made cowl hood

Exactly what I was referring to. Waiting to see the finished hood.

    Tranny leak

Transfer case output seal. Check for worn U-joint(s) and wear on outside of driveshaft slip yoke where the seal rides. 1. Remove driveshaft 2. Remove seal - I use a scraper and a hammer to work the seal out by means of the flange 3. Install new seal - Use hammer and carefully install the seal...

Repainting my entire truck (frame and body, pictures)

I've found that Teflon or similar pipe dope works good on suspension bolt threads. It doesn't wash out like antisieze tends to. Just be careful how you apply it because what keeps water out can also keep it in. Looks good. Hopefully I'll be getting a nearly rust-free 93 in a couple weeks and...

    Oil cooler delete done!

Even though you took care of it already, I had leaky lines on my '95 S-10. I'll assume the lines are pretty close to the same on the full size trucks. I cut the aluminum crimp off the lines and picked up some hydraulic hose from a local business that does fluid power and large hydraulic hoses...

Best Air Fuel Mixture 1990 K1500

Since you used the words "optimized efficiency" I assume you are shooting for better MPGs? Chewy is correct on the theory and operation but attaining the desired results is the hard part. The BLM and INT are based on 02 readings which can be very skewed by leaks in the exhaust system, poor...

    Home-made cowl hood

That's generally the cheap and easy way to do it which works. The only other thing is to pie-cut it as it goes towards the rear of the hood so you can have an angle to the sides. Just a minor detail so it doesn't have vertical lines and sharp corners which are harder to sand and paint. Way...

What is this in my engine bay?

I'm surprised no one commented on how it looks like there are 2 positive cables? My tray looked like that and it is a lot better after a wire wheel and a few coats of rattle-can silver. As far as batteries, I was getting take-outs from a local salvage yard for $30 with a 6 month warranty...

    TBI

I'm probably not much help but I had to put a new pickup coil in my C2500 because it was in pretty rough shape. I know you can replace just the coil for less than $20 and some time if you want to do it yourself. The ECM uses the pickup for firing the injectors so it sounds like you are on the...

    400-700nitemare

I was under my truck switching the parking pawl bracket around and noticed that the 4-pin/3-wire connector is there right next to the transmission. It plugs into a female connector and goes back into the wiring harness by the firewall and comes back as the 1-wire to the kickdown solenoid. So...

AC Question: Leaking high side valve?

I've had that on a couple of my vehicles in the last few years. It seems to be a rubber or plastic ball that splits at the seam. On mine I just replaced the line instead. Good luck though and probably not on changing it without system evacuation. I suppose you can if you don't want to do it...

It's hot and this compressor is screwed?

You can replace the compressor shaft seal($10-20) but there is a special tool required($30-40). If you have not worked on AC then you might be better off having a shop do it, or else plan on investing in a scale and gauge manifold. You do need to clean out the system for a conversion because...

    Power Steering pump

I have started rebuilding my own if there is a parts kit available. A pump can be rebuilt in about an hour with basic hand tools at a cost of $5-10 depending on the brand and parts in the kits. I generally put a price on my time for repairs at $20/hr and if the price of parts and labor is less...

    400-700nitemare

He is not right or wrong on either IMO. There is always more than one way to go about most things. I was going to do this swap on my 90. I picked up the ACDelco 40-tooth reluctor to put on the output shaft in order to run the speedo. All the trans guy needed to do was remove the plastic...

    95 LS swap questions

I don't know if it's the same for all ECUs but I helped with an LS swap into a vehicle and we used the incorrect speedo signal. We tapped into the wire between the transmission and the ECU. The tach pulled the signal voltage low enough that the ECU did not know vehicle speed and the...

    Fiero

My dad has an 86 with a 3.4 swap and that runs low 30mpg with an aftermarket cam and tuning. It averaged 28mpg on a trip through Colorado and we could pass everything but a Vette going up and down. Currently planning/working on an 88 with a SeriesII 3800/4T65e swap. That one is slow going...

    Brake light on, 92 C1500 5.0L

Try unplugging the ABS control to the rear axle. It's located below the master cylinder. If that makes the light go out, it's an ABS issue. Mine had that when I got it and I unplugged it and planned on removing the vavle. At least it narrows down the problem. The park brake will still...

    4l60e to 80e

It's a different story if he's running carb and needs the TPS, MAP, etc to run the 4L80e. In that case the 400 turns out to be a far easier swap. Or run an expensive stand-alone controller. Don't forget that you will need to run and control +12v to the kickdown solenoid for the 400. Not sure...

    4l60e to 80e

I did mean if it was carb or retaining EFI. Even if it's a fun truck, I currently have a TH400 in my 3/4 ton with 4.10 gears and it runs around 3000rpm at 55mph. That gets old real fast if I ever want to get anywhere. I use almost a 1/4 tank making a 40 mile trip at highway speeds. Personally...

    Tbi power

You can have the same thing by removing the ridges around the bores. Everything else is extra. The 45hp claim is probably on a fully built engine where the TBI is the restriction, therefor this mod allowed the engine to make an additional 45hp because it reduced airflow restriction.

    4l60e to 80e

I think you only need to repin the connector. If you search for the pinout diagrams I think there are only a few that need switched around within the connector. Otherwise they sell conversion harnesses online for 75-100. How are you planning on fueling the 454?
