    AGM battery?

I have a standard lead acid battery in my GMC, however my 2012 Toyota has an AGM. The current battery is a bit over five years old and I gave the original to my uncle. It's been in his 8N Ford tractor since and he says it still starts fine. It often sits for months at a time. I bought the car in...

    Forum growing

As some others have also expressed, I've been using the internet for about 30 years now. I was very active on forums in the early days but with the growth of social media most have died off. Plus the modern internet seems so much more toxic. This is about the only forum I still read, though I...

    Cat or no Cat?

I agree. The previous owner of my step side had installed a Y pipe without cats and one of the first things I did was have a shop add some. I needed cats to pass inspection and a side benefit is there is much less droning and noise. Antique registration was an option and I've been asked why I...

My 1990 C1500 SWB Build - Daily Driver

My C1500 came with what looks to be the same hood. The truck needed some body work and repainted when I got it and I debated getting a stock hood. My cousin and his friend talked me out of it but years later I'm still not 100% sold on the looks. It's a pain in the ass cleaning the windshield...

    Mouse Nest

Normally I would never advocate killing animals, but there's no remorse when it comes to mice. Cute little destructive ********. A few years ago I came home from work to find mouse turds on my pillow. War ensued and many a mouse found its way into the trash. A bucket trap works wonders too.

Stepside beds and dually fender repair. SMC not fiberglass..

I'm fairly confident in saying it's SMC. I also want to add, in 2017 I had my 91 GMC stepside repainted. My uncle and I did the body work and I paid a shop to finish the job. It was not a body shop, but a repair shop that does some painting on the side. It turned out good enough for what I...

    Geauga Lake Park Truck Refresh

I was there in the 80s as a kid. Both Sea World and Geauga Lake. I get disbelieving looks when I tell people there used to be a Sea World in Ohio. I still have extended family in the area. Sounds like a fun project!

A day to remember... never forgotten ....

I was in my mid 20s at the time so remember it well. I had the day off and was sitting outside reading. My mom called and said I should turn on my TV. I watched the second tower fall and I remember how powerful and awful it felt. I'll never forget watching that. I also lived near an airport at...

    Ladder rack for stepside bed

My GMC has a stepside bed, which looks cool but isn't always that useful. I do have a 16' aluminium canoe I was given a few years back when my parents divorced. My mom's younger brother helped them purchase it when he worked for Grumman more than 40 years ago, so it's been in the family a while...

1998 Silverado Passlock Issue ---- ugh

Good to know. The tuner cautioned me the security light may still blink at key on so I pulled the bulb from the cluster.

1998 Silverado Passlock Issue ---- ugh

My situation is a bit unique because my truck was already modified before it was mine. I have a 98 inside of a 91 cab and passlock is installed, but was disabled in some way. It was unplugged at the ignition switch and the harness is zip tied out of the way inside the column. It also will run...

Manual to auto trans ignition lock cylinder?

I replaced all my locks about three years ago with this set: https://www.classicindustries.com/product/312314.html Mine is a manual and the old cylinder had the button, but it was so worn it required wiggling the key to get it to start or release the key after shutting it off. I assume what I...

    91 GMC C1500

I realized I haven't updated this thread in quite a while. Anyway, my GMC is parked for the winter. I drove it the last time this past Sunday. Just in time too. While it didn't snow here this week I did see some road salt. For the most part I just drove it this season. I added around 2k more...

    Paint chrome bumper and grill?

Hmm, a GMC version is available too. It's tempting but after adding it to the shopping cart they want another $57.44 for shipping and handling. I think I'll keep my rattle can painted junkyard grille.

Replacing ignition cylinder 1997 Yukon - any difference in cylinders?

I replaced both door and the ignition cylinders in my pickup with a set from Classic Industries a couple years ago. The set came with two replacement keys. No problems so far but it's not a daily driver. Yours is a different situation so I'm not sure this is any help...

    GM crate engines?

My stock 350 Vortec put another 20 horsepower to the wheels with a tune. I can't imagine skipping it after the expense of buying and installing an upgraded crate engine.

1990 Interior B Pillar Panel Removal Tips

That seems to be a common problem. I've found two trucks in a local yard with B pillars in the right color and both have damage from someone installing an antenna. They just yanked the panel out to run the cable in behind. One was glued back together with some sticky black goo.

    Led headlights

I often think people go for a drive after installing new lights and feel like it's a huge upgrade because the road is really well lighted. But they're not considering the amount of glare, and may not realize that 100 feet down the road is no better than before. I've seen some of these "upgrades"...

What GMT400 parts are unobtainable in 2019?

I live in southern Maine. I can't think of any stations with ethanol free that I've run across in my travels. Out of state is about the same. Iowa is the first state I've driven through (on 80) where it was an option, that I recall. While I love road trips I still have about half the states to...

What GMT400 parts are unobtainable in 2019?

I bought the cheaper stuff that contains ethanol. I remember there being a big price difference that I wasn't willing to pay, especially since I don't run ethanol free gas anyway. It's difficult to find in most areas.

What GMT400 parts are unobtainable in 2019?

I drove from Maine to western CO 12 months ago and according to my records I paid 2.759 in Des Moines on 5/9. I didn't pay extra for the ethanol free. That's in the ballpark of the cost here in Maine right now. Prices in CO were higher but that was due to my unwillingness to run 85 octane. NE...
