    Hey folks, solved the issue this morning. Turned out to be the lights on the vanity mirror. The cover had broken and was no longer depressing the switch fully to turn it off. Disconnected the wire and the amp draw went away. Should be good to go now. Thanks for the suggestions!

    Sadly it has been over a month, and I have absolutely nothing new to add in here. Bought a 2005 GMC Duramax utility body truck to outfit as my service rig and retire the Suburban from active duty, so any free time I have for a while will be spent upfitting that truck.

    And clear is on! 4 thick coats. Have a few runs, should be plenty thick to be able to scrape them down with a razor blade later, then do the final sanding and buffing.

    Clearly I don't know what I'm doing in this case, basically learning as I'm going. So - now that I've gone to all the work to sand most of it out in 400, will mixing reducer with the primer thin it out enough to lay down smoother on the final coat of primer that will be sanded out in 600 grit?

    What have you towed lately

    I know, I've been pushed around by trailers before, and drove accordingly. Roads were wet. Only about 15 miles and went no more than 40 mph. The tires on the Suburban were more concerning to me than the lack of trailer brakes.
