How soon should I paint? Should I EVEN paint?

Ultimately the decision is yours to make. When I tell someone it is not worth putting money in to I am trying to impart wisdom rather than give them orders. In some cases it is just better to find a different truck to start with, that will save you money in the long run, perhaps that is all...

    Procedure for minor surface rust?

Just make Just make sure it is completly sanded off and it won't come back. Then some good primer. Some will suggest using an epoxy primer for a direct to metal (DTM) application but I use 2K stuff usually and don't have issues. See ya! EDIT: And as noted previously, if the bed rails don't...

454 Vortec head much better than older 454 truck head??

As stated previously, it would help if you gave everyone a little bit more information to help you. What heads are you comparing them to, and what era of short block? Mark IV, or Gen V, or ....? BTW, I run a 600 on my stock Gen V BBC with out any issue. My truck doesn't rev past 4,500-5,000 and...

    Procedure for minor surface rust?

Pictures would be helpful. If it is just some surface rust from like scratched-off paint then just hit it with 80 grit sand paper and make sure you have removed it all from the surface then primer over it. Then prep it for paint.

454 Vortec head much better than older 454 truck head??

The short answer to your question is no. The Vortec heads I have of my Gen VI is a typical oval port style head. And I believe they are a 112cc head because of the chamber design. I am not an engine guy at all, but I can tell you that those heads are not a power adder like a SBC version. I'd...

    Engine swap

Bell housing to bell housing it is a direct swap. GM engineering has blessed us that way. L6, SBC, BBC, and even modern LS engines all use the same bell housing bolt pattern.

New Guy here with a 95 GMC Sierra

Welcome to the forum. Can you determine if it is coming from the front or rear at least? I'd suspect worn brakes as previously stated. Could also be a differential or wheel/axle bearing but those issues usually make a whining/howl sound.

Ran fine, 15 mins later No Start. It Cranks, has Fuel Pressure and Spark.[SOLVED]

Have you replaced the sensor? Although that does look like the issue, I've learned that disconnecting one sensor can put the computer in limp mode, which is actually masking the issue from another sensor. Example: Had a truck fail to start at a gas station, 300 miles from home. Was running rich...

Ran fine, 15 mins later No Start. It Cranks, has Fuel Pressure and Spark.[SOLVED]

That is a possibility. I believe the Pssskey came out on these trucks in 98. Someone else will have to chime in who knows them better.

    I need ideas.

Is it made for our chassis? Almost looks like it bolts up to the holes for the original tow hooks. But TBH I have no idea.

Do any of you drive junk????

I do! I was looking for 4L80e and came across one in town. It was rebuilt and the guy wants $300 for it. I told him to keep it, since rebuilt transmissions never last as long as a factory one. A lot of engines are the same way. OEM environments are almost completely dust free and made by robots...

Seeking Suggestions on my 454 Swap

Thanks! I came across that thread yesterday and have printed it out and have studied it. This morning I purchased new red/blue connectors and the adapter for the IAC. As soon as the arrive I'll dig into it. :) BTW is your truck a 700R4 truck? If so did you get the TCC lockup to work with the...

Seeking Suggestions on my 454 Swap

Thanks for the reply. I've got it to run on my 350 wiring harness with the 350 TBI, using the 350 chip. However, the chip for the 94 does not appear to fit into my 92 computer. So I'd like to use the 94 computer and chip since I have it. Otherwise I think I'll have to buy a PROM for a 92 454...

98 350 runs rough after wot run

Perhaps a TPS since it does it at a certain throttle position. I'm not really sure what the TPS is used for in your year of truck but in my Olds it gave a lot of problems with fuel delivery because of dead spots.

Seeking Suggestions on my 454 Swap

Trying to swap a 94 454 into a 92 chassis that had a 5.7l... I purchased a 94 454 TB which should be arriving today. In preparation I wanted to swap out the computer and wiring harness and hit a bit of a snag. I noticed that a few connections are not the same between the two, speaking of...

    Could use some help

If the plugs have been fouled for awhile it is possible that raw fuel ran down to the catalytic converter and got it hot and melted it, making it a giant plug. When they get plugged well enough they can backfire through the intake. In such a case, what happens is the cylinder cannot empty its...

    TBI Question

Thanks. Never knew that website existed. I was using ebay. I also noticed about the fuel pump thing as well and intend to swap it out when its time. I have to do little by little here, and not having a wrecking yard within 100 miles from here makes it costly and slow. I have the engine running...

Misfire/ bucks under load and making right turns... HELP!

I have heard that some of these trucks will have a break in a wire in the steering column that will cut out the fuel pump. I've never experienced it myself but hopefully that will get you started in the right direction when searching. And I'm not sure if it effects your year. But turning right...
