    The Stupid Electronics Questions Thread

Nah it just comes out of that harness. The connector is large enough to fit over a relatively large bolt. Something on the back of the engine or the dizzy clamp, maybe? I took the lower intake off in maybe 2015 and a mechanic had the intake off plus the dizzy in 2020 I think. I guess I could tie...

    Shocks on a Budget

You didn't mention what you will be towing.... Based on member recommendations in another thread I bought the Gabriel "Max Control". About $45/ea. The most I ever tow is a 4x8 trailer full of green firewood. Truck handles well.

    The Stupid Electronics Questions Thread

Does anyone know what this is and where it connects? I assume it's a ground for something. I discovered it while changing the plug wires. I would guess it's been disconnected for 5-8 years and the truck hasn't burned up yet.

    High output alternator

I don't know the alternator model and I don't know if the Votec is different from your truck. The guy at the parts store told me there was a high output option so I said sure. The bracket holes did not line up so I brought it back. I think you need a different belt as well.

    Famous Fuel Pressure

Well the pump output is constant while consumption is variable, correct?

    Famous Fuel Pressure

I'll give you points on the Tombstone reference. As for the "driving down the road" pressure I think it would be variable based on fuel consumption which would be impossible to quantify from one truck to another.

    Famous Fuel Pressure

Another gauge won't help if he insists on using it incorrectly.

    Famous Fuel Pressure

Well there you go. Did you even read the previous replies? The test is conducted with the engine off, key on. Watch for the initial spike, then make note of the pressure after it leaks down for a few seconds. Go get the Chilton manual for your truck. It covers all this stuff. Your soot out the...

    Sorry to waste your time.

    Exterior handles plastic? metal? both?

Going back to the original issue of the lock motor being too weak to unlock the doors... Swapping the door handles isn't going to do anything. The motor doesn't work on the handle at all. It's moving the lock knob and the lock core and it uses the op rods to do it. Clean and lube those pivots...

Stay and listen OR ride in back

Sitting in the far back seat of a Suburban while your teenage kid drives will put you on a whole new level of anxiety.

    Exterior handles plastic? metal? both?

Another thing that will help you is to replace all the plastic glides and elbows on the operating rods. I bought a "universal" kit from Oreilly and believe it or not it had everything I needed plus some extras I have since used on other vehicles.

    Whining alternator on my ‘94

Be warned that the "high output" alternator uses a different mounting bracket and belt.

    Windshield washer fluid jet

I think that would be true in a rigid pipe but not a soft hose. But I am no engineer.

    Windshield washer fluid jet

I think the issue is the shorter hose is the path of least resistance and thus has higher flow.

Which of the 3 should I buy for an off road toy?

Block heater and a piece of cardboard over the radiator.

    Optical illusion scare picture

Fooled me. I was about to comment on the steering gear bolt that recently got the impact treatment.

Which of the 3 should I buy for an off road toy?

When you go shopping again I wouldn't count out the 6.5. They are a totally different animal than the old 6.2 turds.

Well, you could take power from somewhere else, even a spare battery. Or you could disconnect your own battery and see if the code goes away.

5.7 vortec engine sound. is this normal?

Slap at #5. This seems to be common.

    Which coolant should I use?

I went around and around on this a few years ago. After seeing what old Dex can do I swore I would find a better product. After hours spent reading different articles and forum posts I converted all of our vehicles to Zerex G05. But see most of these vehicles leak here or there and need to be...

    GCWR -Suburban

The PO lives around the corner from me so I know he towed a decent sized trailer with it. He also kept all his service records. Looks like the rear axle was rebuilt twice, leafs replaced, trans rebuilt within 150k. the truck does have a trailer brake controller. Oh, yes. Downshifting is...

    GCWR -Suburban

My 'burb might pull 6k lbs but no way in hell it would stop it. My little landscaping trailer full of firewood or camping supplies is enough to fade the brakes coming down the Sierras.

    What is my engine burning?

Pull the vacuum line and see if there is brake fluid in it. I would think the reservoir level would drop pretty fast if this were the case, though.
