Problems with heat in 1996 C1500

Also look at the condensation drain below the dryer for the a/c. If coolant is pouring out definitely a heater core. If all you saw was it coming out of the vents and no where else on the truck, that's another box ticked for the core. I assume it's not leaving wet spots on the ground?

1988 GMC rough idle, no power, stalls

Disconnect a sensor like the tps or map. May be upset for a moment. It will stop reading the chip in the computer and kick over to the limp chip. See if it stays running. Can also unplug the egr solenoid, if you haven't already. Egr spring gets weak and will cause issues or it can leak.

1988 GMC rough idle, no power, stalls

Is fuel pooling up on the back of the throttle blades while this is happening?

    Ignition + more problems I fixed w/pics

Air box back in with duct tape on all the seems just to make sure no leaks. Its a three part deal and not all that complicated. Pulled a vacuum and let the system sit overnight to make sure there are no leaks. And finally, the fruits of my labor. 38* at idle on a particularly hot July...

    Ignition + more problems I fixed w/pics

I figured I'd follow up on an old thread I made over a year ago, and add some new things. Maybe it will help someone in the future with these old trucks. Goes over a/c, idle, and ignition issues. http://www.gmt400.com/threads/so-i-blew-my-muffler-up.34756/ TLDR: ignition module issues caused a...

So.... I blew my muffler up

Has always smelled a tiny bit rich for the 40,000 miles or so I've had it. I did check the timing and number one wire was intermittently not firing. And then is just stranded me essentially. Let it cool for a bit and went a few more miles and it started acting up again. So I went for the last...

So.... I blew my muffler up

Only code that shows is from the egr failing its self test. Never anything stored. I wonder why the cat decided to go in such a short time span as well. Gets plenty of fuel, it has always had a slightly rough idle. Enough to feel but not enough to notice outside or hear. I always attributed it...

So.... I blew my muffler up

Lots of recent changes.... my paranoia says cascade failures. 217k miles on the clock. Recently (past 3000 miles) it was losing power on hills and had hesitation with partial throttle which was atributed to the egr. So blocked vacuum line to it. Ran fine for a while then started losing power...

So.... I blew my muffler up

When I got home after and let it cool off for an hour or so it ran like a dream. Issue gone...... Truck has multiple personalities, cant decide whether to be happy or piss in my cheerios.

So.... I blew my muffler up

Ill check timing tomorrow. For some odd reason my timing light is in my diesel:shrug: about 20 minutes away, but I digress. And yes... driving down the Ocoee river comming out of curve and applied partial throttle and BOOM. I seriously thought I blew the engine at 1/3 throttle for about 30...

So.... I blew my muffler up

Simply that, Went to accelerate out of a corner at 1/3 throttle and heard a shotgun go off. Pulled off and the carcass of the muffler dangled helplessly. So clearly a backfire. The rest of the drive home was filled with lots of backfires if i tried to do more than 1/4 throttle without manually...

    Loss of power above 3krpm

So it was indeed the kitty, and it was dealt with in the most appropriate manner. A hammer and chisel. Forgot how much power the truck actually had. Thanks for helping a newblet. Next project, fixing fubar'd head on a cummins.

    Hey from Tennessee

Im usually around Chattanooga but I am always out doing something. I work on tanks, APCs, and other military vehicles pretty much all the time. I have 2 trucks. A maroon 94 Chevy c1500 RCLB 350 and a 97 Dodge 2500 Cummins that has been modified. Can find me on cumminsforum as well under Dans12v.

    Loss of power above 3krpm

So I've been lurking for a while, but that's for an intro later. I have a 94 c1500 5.7 auto 2wd 4.10 gears and a g80. My commute is roughly 75 miles one way through the highways and hills of Tennessee, thus my problem. Recently a series of things have started acting weird. It started loosing...
