    No Brakes!!! Dangerous ride home.

Yep. Last time I slid the drums off to adjust my brakes, I caught a leaky axle seal. Hadn't leaked enough to get the backing plate or shoes all grimy. But if all I looked at was the backing plate or drum, I'd have thought it was dry & ok.

Changing tires fast ‘ Going opposite ways ..Need opinions on what will ride smoother and be good for a 5k suv ”

I forget which Continentals I put on the fiancée's Tahoe, but I'm really impressed with them. They look like a street tire, but her truck still goes really well in snow and dirt. Haven't driven it in mud. Up until the Continentals, I thought I'd put another set of Mastercraft Courser HSX's on...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

I suppose after I have the shop check the valvetrain I'll give Kendra & Natalie a shot. What model number filter would I need? Yep, this filter seems like money wasted. Looks pretty nice and felt heavy, so maybe it's better than the A/C Smelco's I've been spinning on there. I'll hear the...

clean the oem injectors on my own vs aftermarket new ones? (1995 305) Core($) on an injector??

No easy way to check fuel pressure on these fossils. You need to crack the fat fuel line going into the TBI and put that adaptor they make for these in place. Don't leave it there unless you upgrade the o-ring(s?) in it. Getting an old Snap-On MT-2500 would let you see the data from all...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

Menards is a good 20 to 30 minutes from me.. 2nd day report: Rattle returns, noticed it like normal when I left work yesterday. On start-up this morning, it rattled, but just a wee bit. Either this filter's ADV checked out or I've got old engine issues. It's going to go in for service I'm...

    No Brakes!!! Dangerous ride home.

I check fluids and underneath my cars at every oil change. I check the brakes, ball joints, axle seals and such every 10k. As for my K1500, I've got those "crappy" duo servo rear brakes. I can always tell when they need to be adjusted by pedal feel- too much travel means it's time to pop the...

10-4 Black, I think. Didn't pay attention to the box other than for it's number. Quaker State 5W-30, full synthetic.

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

Today would be what I'd call day 1 of the new filter. It's the 2nd start after I changed the oil, after the engine sat all night. No clatter on start-up. Hopefully it'll stay that way the entire OCI. Oil filter used: M1-201A (Mobil 1). I would've went with the Purolator ONE option, but the...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

No it's not, it's the same engine, fool! /s. "Donnie, you are out of your element! You're like a small child that wanders into the middle of a room amidst a conversation and wants to contribute.." ..You need to read from the start of my thread. The LS engine O-ring is a side story.

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

I was skeptical too. And then my once-a-year brilliant idea hit me to lift the rear up, dump oil in and check to see if it actually made a difference. I was over the moon when the noise went away. It was at that time I asked her how long it's been making that noise and she said ever since she...

    88 GMC with code 32

On my '89 Firebird with it's 305, the EGR passages in the intake manifold were plugged solid. I never saw that code again once I swapped on the Edelbrock Performer TBI manifold.

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

..I remember more details now. I learned the oil pick up is at the front of the engine, so I jacked it up sky high in the rear and dumped enough oil in to submerge where that o-ring lives. Fired it up and it was quiet with improved oil pressure. That's what convinced my old shop dude to put...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

That could be the automatic or an issue between the steering wheel and driver's seat. When Angela drives her truck, she gets about 12-14 mpg with it. When I drive it, 15-17. She isn't consistent with the throttle and runs up to red lights & such. She also likes to take off pretty hot. Her...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

Oh I've got my radar scanning for a regular cab short box stick shift 5.3 truck. Some say the GMT400 was the best truck GM made, but after driving her Tahoe, I'm all about the '00-'04 GMT800's. I can't say enough good things about them, and this is coming from all the criticism I picked up...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

Yep. I recall talking with my mechanic about it, he was one of the guys who told me the engine was toast. Eventually he ended up doing the service and then told me he does them all the time. WTF? Told me if I wanted a job at his establishment, it's mine at any time. "Suure. Derek, the...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

I'm not that worried about it. It's more along the lines of something I noticed and the analyst in me wants to try a few things and compare notes to get a definitive answer. I'm one lazy SOB, so definitely not going to install a filter relocation kit. The valvetrain might indeed need looked...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

WIX XP was what I was using. One OCI I started to notice the 1/2 second of rattle on start-up and then come to find WIX sold out.

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

I suspected that too, until I had an oil filter on there (Believe it was a WIX or maybe a Purolator Boss) that I ran for an OCI and didn't hear anything on start-up. Then I recall reading a post Shurkey(?) made about there being a TSB about the very same issue with K trucks. The engine does...

Oil Filters with good anti-drainback valves?

Hello everyone! I'm looking for an oil filter which has an anti-drainback valve which doesn't fail after a month or so. This would be for the K1500 in my signature. I've used filters from AC Delco, Purolator (Red one), Bosch(?) and WIX. They all last about two weeks before they fail, leaving...

An F Body Guy With a Lot of Trucks

Fellow F-body guy here. We own a 1998 Z28 and a 1989 Formula Firebird. Have had three GMT400's in my life now. My '89 is much like your 1990 GMC, minus the sport package and automatic. Edit: ..That feeling when you realize you replied to a dead thread..

    1992 7.4 Oil?

That reminds me, what brands actually make one with a good anti-drainback valve? I've been through WIX, Purolator and A/C Smelco only to notice they've failed within a month, usually sooner. Tried a Bosch I think it was, same thing. If my truck was 2WD, it wouldn't matter..

Painted my truck with turbo cans lol

I was about to say. Three years ago I resprayed the roof on my truck (Just a regular cab) and spent over $200 on color matched rattle-can base coat in addition to etch primer, primer sealer and clearcoat. That's not counting all the materials I burned up prepping & cleaning the thing either.

First real test drive today, after V8 swap.

I forgot that I have a stage one JET chip in it. Oh man, was I ever excited to install that bad boy at age 18. Thought I was going get all those lost bald eagles to come home & roost... Needless to say, my car needs to be tuned, I can tell there's plenty left on the table at WOT. But my goal...
