1996 CC K3500 dually “working classic”

Well finally got around to finishing the trans rebuild this weekend. Broke a bolt and a few other setbacks but it’s together and fingers crossed it actually works. For being my first COMPLETE rebuild there is a steep learning curve but luckily the 4l80e is relatively simple as far as autos go...

Started tearing into the trans today after the rebuild kit finally came in. Needless to say this one got cooked. All the clutches came out paper thin and brittle, all the steels are scored. As a bonus the reverse servo spring came out in pieces. Like always can’t be simple haha.

Progress on the flatbed build. Still waiting on my trans rebuild kit from Jake’s performance….. Ended up totally redoing the deck supports, originals were junk. The bed is bolted to the chassis now and Tacked in place. All that’s left is box frames a lot of cleanup and final welding and it...

1996 CC K3500 dually “working classic”

Spent the past weekend torching all the crappy sheeting and fenders off the flatbed. Been working on fully welding the deck supports that are there, a large number of supports are going to get cut out and boxed around for the drop in boxes and well and more cross supports added for deck...

Sweet rig, Love it. I miss my hd suburban. They are beasts. Ps towing in OD is not a good idea but with that low of weight you should be fine.

Didn’t think of that but you are right! I think I’ll add an extra hitch receiver tube on the back that I can slide in a vice mount that way it’s removable.

Waiting on parts to get to work on the truck. Meantime been working on the bed. I Drew up a quick sketch to kind of get an idea of how I want the bed layout will be. Fenders are in Rest of the Steel supposed to be here this week. I ended up giving 5k for it, he wouldn’t budge anymore. Oh...

Welding body style bed but made to be more of a service body. Have fabbed fenders coming out and 3 recessed toolboxes across the back. Half cab gaurd up at the front with a chest tool box. Eastern NC I will consider myself lucky! He came down quite a bit from that price. I drove 3 and a half...

1996 CC K3500 dually “working classic”

I finally found a good enough deal to convince myself to pull the trigger on one of my dream trucks. An obs crew cab. 1996 k3500 dually. 454 4x4 4.10 gears and only 150k miles. Clean as a whistle, absolutely no rust on the body only surface rust on the chassis. This truck also has the bw 4401...

Working on rust and dents…. First time doing cab corners so trial by fire haha. Front of cab was rusted had to fabricate a patch for that. Rocker looked like a washboard and needed a patch as well got it pretty straight now. Hoping paint before end of year

Did it myself with raptor liner off of Amazon. Need about a gallon and a half to do a long bed. Kit comes with a gun. Just have to prep yourself.

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of the roll pan.... think I’m gonna get a standard bumper and color match it. The pan barely fit before paint now it fits worse and the lines look all off. Junking it. Bedliner turned out good and my tailgate alignment and bodywork ended up spot on One step at a time.

Still a bit crude but new fuel door is cut and installed the bed. I used push button hood pin as the latch. I will have a filler neck welded on the side of the tank so no rubber hose. Bed is done for now. Next up I’m gutting the cab and ordering the roll cage. Good bit of metal work on the cab...

Yeah I have sheet steel, was contemplating cutting out all the irregular joints and such and body working it all flat, everything is getting painted anyways. All the wiring already travels through ugly bulkhead connectors. Trucks is getting completely rewired and engine and trans will be stand...

    Shaved firewall worth it?

Maybe I should preface where o am with the truck. The truck is already blown completely apart. I’m re doing every nut and bolt. I want an old truck that is practically new. I will drive the piss out of this truck, race it, take it to shows, daily drive, etc. I just figured while I’m here why not...
