    '98 Chevy K1500 Z71

Year and a half later, i'm still alive. Finally getting around to rebuilding the transmission (got more parts to order for it). Working my current job, I have far more free time, and work is not nearly as physically or mentally demanding as it was before, so you all should start seeing regular...

Hey guys need some info/help on motors

The Vortec L31 would work, you would just have to get a new intake manifold that would work with the Vortec heads. Assuming your truck is TBI, Edelbrock makes a vortec tbi manifold. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

    Where to purchase reman axel?

Why not just rebuild the one that's on the truck? It's a 6-lug, so i'm assuming it's an 8.5" axle. Get new ring and pinion for your ratio, rebuild kit, bearing, seals, etc... and throw in a Detroit TruTrac. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

    Air filters

If you want to keep the stock intake, I usually use the Napa gold paper filters. I believe Champion also makes a severe duty filter. If you go to an intake system, get the Volant one with the Donaldson Powercore dry filter. Hands down the best air filter anywhere. Sent from my XT1585 using...

Damn, almost a year since I last updated. Well, there has really been nothing to update. Started working and schooling full-time in January. School from 8am-1pm, then work from 1:30pm-10pm monday to friday. and sort everything out on the weekend. Also in the process of moving to Dallas to rejoin...

    Suburban questions

The 400s "454" is 7.4L. the 8.1 is a 496ci engine, and it didnt come out until 2001, with the introduction of the GMT800 HD trucks. Sent from my Vortec-powered Droid Turbo using Tapatalk

    Drum to Disc Conversion

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the 13" brakes only came 8-lug, on the larger 10.5" rear axle, and 9.25" ifs axle. Sent from my Vortec-powered Droid Turbo using Tapatalk

    Drum to Disc Conversion

Just use the part number off of a K2500 the same model year as your truck. You shouldn't have to change the knuckles... I'm pretty sure the larger caliper bolts on to the standard half ton one Sent from my Vortec-powered Droid Turbo using Tapatalk

    Drum to Disc Conversion

Yeah no problem! Also, since you are taking the brake system apart anyways, I would upgrade your master cylinder to the NBS one (NBS being '99-'07 body style). It will give you better brake performance. And stainless steel brake lines are always a good upgrade. Also, a word of note, when you...

    Drum to Disc Conversion

The larger rear drums won't swap to the stock 8.5" axle. You will have to install the larger 9.5" axle. And the rotors and calipers will bolt on (use the part numbers from that year 2500). Make sure you get the 6-lug ones. The 2500s had 6 lugs (light duty) and 8 lugs (heavy duty). Sent from my...

    Drum to Disc Conversion

That is a direct swap? No. Disc brake parts are a lot harder to come by for the 9.5. The brake drums and shoes are bigger though. It is one of the 14-bolts. The "14 Bolt" that everyone thinks of is the 10.5" one found on heavy 2500s and 3500s. That axle is not a direct swap into the half ton...

    Drum to Disc Conversion

If you want a direct swap, you will want to get an axle with drum brakes. Also, you will need a conversion u-joint to hook your stock driveshaft to the 9.5s pinion yoke Sent from my Vortec-powered Droid Turbo using Tapatalk
  22. TrailBlazerZ71

    Drum to Disc Conversion

It does not limit your choices. Just make sure that it's off of a GMT400 ('88-'98). The 9.5" is a semi-float axle. What I think you are referring to is traction devices. Depending on what you are doing, replacing the stock G80 differential for a decent aftermarket limited slip unit is always a...

    Drum to Disc Conversion

What you are really wanting to do is make your truck into what has been affectionately known as a "heavy half". It was basically a 1500 with 2500 suspension and brakes. They came from the factory like this, so you will have no problem making yours into one Sent from my Vortec-powered Droid...

    Drum to Disc Conversion

It is very do-able. There are many kits for the 8.5" rear axle, and the hydroboost brake system, as well as the front rotors and calipers from the 2500s are a direct swap. Another option is to put the larger 9.5" rear axle from a 2500 under the back. That will give you larger rear brakes too. As...

1996 GMC Extended cab 60/40 to bucket seats

Just make sure you have the entire assembly for both seats (frame, mounting bracket, etc..). I'm not 100% sure, but the mounting holes may already be there. If not, you'll have to drill them out. I've never pulled a bench seat out before, so I'm not 100% sure. May be able to use the bench seat...
