    I am finding this now when going from a 88 cluster to a 99 caddy cluster. 88 processes the speedo internally the 99 relies on the ECU to do it. realized it when I was doing a harness build. ( am keeping the TBI in this one.) by research I believe I need a DRAC unit to drive the later cluster...

    Will GMT 800 truck rear axle swap into GMT 400s?

    how are you fixing the width issue. looking at doing a GMT900 under mine. need independent rear wheel speed and something other than the 10bolt that is in it (more power going in.). the mounts I understand. can these still be bought new from the dealer or is there an aftermarket version now?

    they build a LOT of cool stuff! hand them a decent budget and they will build you a legal lay frame truck. the 3500 they built for SEMA is a great example.

    It may be easier to find one already done with a VFD Setup and modify it into the dash. Food for thought. Anything led based I don't think will be bright enough during the day. Look at Jap cars for parts . 240sx would be a start.

    for those of you that did the column as well - how did you fix the through cab hole? 99 esky column into a 88 reg cab here. swap the mount obviously but the through cab part does not seal up. 88 bolts to the cab, 99 pushes through the hole and seals with a grommet. thoughts?

    so the aftermarket chime item (metra GMRC for example) is simply looking for the data request and making the noise. the GMT 400s are obviously non data so the unit will not work. if you wanted to use something that makes a noise you like then grab that, add a relay to trip it with the door open...

    the GMT800s run the chime information via data to the radio. its not an external unit in those. body control sends the command to the radio, radio generates the tone and sends it to a speaker.

    interesting. willwood do a decent one as well. if you are interested in swapping to a 6 bolt pattern then that opens up many possibilities, especially of you want to lift stuff off the current range of trucks. 16" fronts and 14" rears - willwood do those if you need to retain the parking brake...
