95 2wd stepside reg cab. Dropped with a flip kit in the back.

I use trucks as trucks quite often. This truck has only been with me a month, and its kind of falling down on the job.

Factory 3 leaf +overload in the back, unknown shocks with no extenders.

I have found already that this thing sags much more with weight than any other 1/2 ton ive ever had. 4 railroad ties had it bottomed in the notch.

Additionally, it rides like a buckboard unloaded.

I have shock extenders (djm axle end), and low mileage bilstiens from a 2wd suburban. I also have springs from a 2500 (7+overload)

What im looking for is best ride quality empty, and ability to deal with the weight of lumber, engines, gravel, tow dolly, etc. Only need that capacity once or twice a month.

Originally planned to just use the 2500 springs, but thay are significantly stiffer than what is there now.

My thoughts have been leaning towards pulling the overload in th 3leaf pack, adding the bilsteiens and extenders, and buying an air lift slam air kit now.

Thats an additional $300.

My other idea was air shocks. I used them in the mid 90s to clear big tires on cheap muscle cars with sacked springs, but dont remember much about ride and handling.

What route woul y'all suggest?

Air bags and good shocks would significantly help. Pulling the overload is up to you, i dont really see a need for an overload if you put bags on it. Air shocks are not a good idea.

The bad ride is almost surely going to be the shocks and lack of extenders. They can't work properly at that extreme angle.

I wouldn't add a 2500 spring pack, at least not from a regular 8600lb gvwr 2500. But, if you can find a spring pack from a "light duty" 2500 (6 lug, 7200lb gvwr) it's just got one more main leaf than your 1500 does. Similar spring pack can be had from a 1500 that has the F44 suspension package. Leave the overload in there. If it sits too high you can add drop shackles to bring it down a bit.

My old 94 C2500LD rode great and still hauled plenty of weight. Obviously I couldn't load it down hard but I did still work it quite a bit. It would bounce off the notch brackets every now and then but not to the point it was unusable.

Give it a try; it sounds like your springs are probably worn out anyway. And you definitely need the extenders. If this doesn't get you where you wanna be, you can still pull a leaf (not my preference) and add helper bags.
