Trying to replace the exterior window runner (bottom of window, runs under the mirror) on my 90 chevy... I cant figure out how the damn clips fit into the runner correctly. I always end up with bulges on the outside of the runner, looks like crap!

Anybody got any tricks for this?

Thanks!

If its a "new" replacement weatherstripping, they are cheap and warp and bulge. Mine did that and so did another member on here. You can putnthe weatherstripping on the door and let it sit in the sun and get slightly warm before adding the clips. The newer trucks of this body style do not use the clips and use weatherstripping adhesive

maybe some use the adhesive, or maybe the one you saw was replaced using the adhesive. the original doors on my 99 c3500 cclb had clips. the replacement doors that I removed from a 99 suburban have clips, my buddys 98 ext cab has clips. I've been dismantling this trucks for nearly 20yrs & have never seen adhesive on that strip.

Either one must have been used. I pulled oem ones from two different trucks and neither one had the clips or the holes for the clips.

The early year trucks (probably your 90 included) had metal clips for that weatherstrip. After that they switched to ones where the clips are molded into the plastic and are really wide. You don't transplant the metal clips to those.

Unfortunately, the new style sucks...especially if you buy aftermarket. I got some from LMC and they installed great, felt tight, but a few weeks later started rolling up along with the window. I'd hazard a guess if you saw some with adhesive, it was someone trying to make that style stick to the door. They're garbage.

LMC is where I got mine as well. I had the same problem of them separating from the door on the past pair I installed. I didn't use the clips that time and thought the lack of clips was my problem. I found some OEM GM strips at a dealer for 200+ so that ain't happening. I may end up trying some adhesive this time around.

Pic below shows two of the six holes those clips fit in. That's the new runner sitting above the holes, it unsecured for the time being.

What did you end up doing to solve your problem?
