Yea something like that could definitely work, ive caught crap in the past hooking up steering wheel controls so I'm not too fond of them.

I hope you return to this thread if you install one of those as would really like to go to school on someone who has done it. From looking at the Amazon link there appears to be a receiver that costs about 25 or so that plugs into the radio, correct? I gather that some work and some do not. I know one of my Kenwoods has a jack on the back for a controller and the other does not .

From what I can tell, with some stereos you can connect it directly to, and with others, you need the adapter. I'm not sure why someone would get crap for putting it in. It's fairly necessary for answering phone calls. My two other, much newer, vehicles have it, I'd miss it in the truck.

I sure enjoy it in mine . The Bluetooth really makes the phone convenient. I think imachevyguy was referring to the difficulty (crap) of getting the steering wheel remote to work with some radios. It is somewhat of a gray area for me too having not installed one. I sure like the idea though as I really like and use the steering wheel controls in my other vehicles.

I meant as far as the install process for them, I've put in a module to keep factory steering wheel controls with an aftermarket radio in a Tacoma, 4runner, and a mustang. Not fun. The box is a pain to wire, and if it's a cheap universal one the directions are very vague. They usually learn automatically so that's a plus.

But that module is different because you're adding something as a whole. Shouldn't be hard at all in theory. Seems very neat in my opinion and I might end up investing in one.

If you guys can sort out how to install those steering wheel controls reliably this will be a very valuable thread. This is a great way to bring a truck into the modern era fairly inexpensively. It becomes more relevant every day as laws grow ever tighter (usually for good reason) on using phones or adjusting radios while driving.

Yeah, I have avoided putting a new stereo in for a long time, due to the looks, but, I think the technology has reached a point where I should upgrade the truck. I won't lie, my dad's '17 Silverado renewed my interest in taking care of my truck, because frankly, I can't afford 30k (or more), for a new one, and, there's nothing wrong with the one I've got, provided I can modernize it, which, I think this thread is going a long ways toward proving it can be done.

Definitely so, I'm only 21 and I love all the extra technology that I can incorporate into my truck to bring it into my generation's style of living. It's quite easy too!
