Just got off of phone with a shop about 35 mins away that was recommended by a friend , read reviews on them and they looked good. Give him a call and he said 350.00 with coolant , oil change and filter. I have and appointment for Tuesday. His price sounds a little closer to earth !

A good tech who has done a lot of these will have no problem doing this in 2 hours. 350 is a good price.

Absolutely require that they use the felpro gaskets identified earlier in this thread. No exceptions. MS98000T. Bring the gaskets with you, or let them supply even if they charge you another few bucks.

Just my two cents on Dexcool...

Both of my trucks still run it, and have since day one. Factory intake gaskets on both. Never had an issue. It seems to me that the people who have issues with it usually aren't big on maintenance and never change it or let leaks go for way too long.

I remember reading that GM changed the formula years ago after the initial issues people had, but I'm not sure if there's any truth to that. Regardless I have no plans to switch away from it.

It *seems* the gotcha with Dex-cool is if you have a leak in the system so that it doesn't properly pressurize, and then you get air pockets. In turn you end up with hot spots in the system, when the Dex-cool hits those it gets cooked and that's where you end up with the muddy mess some have seen. Now mind you this is speculation but it's from people that have experienced it. Others believe this was due to mixing incompatible coolants back in the day (green vs. orange) but the mud has happened to people that are 100% sure they have never mixed.

It explains why in later designs (1999 GMT800) they eliminated the radiator cap and moved the pressure cap to the reservoir, in an effort to cut down on places you could inadvertently introduce air into the system.

Sure makes me appreciate the simplicity of the 1970 Chevy CST I thought I needed to get rid of years ago. But I guess in years to come these will be the simplicity old farts remember. Thanks guys for all the info and help.

Don't say that, I have an 06 Sierra as well and so far I have not had to do nothing but service and drive it. Just did the first tune on it. I have realized at 62 I have way more tools and equipment than I care to use anymore o_O

Ive done 4 sets on 3 trucks and havnt seen a cracked lower yet. Just find a buddy that knows the difference between a ratchet and a wrench and save yourself some money.
I was a little skeptical when I did my first intake job on the 5.7, actually wasn’t any where near as bad as I thought it was going to be. Ive got 5 under mybelt now, no problems out of any of them.

Yeah I can knock it out in about an hour in a half, I use to work at the local car quest store here in town & one of the shop owners that always bought from us got me to come help with bigger jobs in the evenings & I knocked 4 or 5 of em out helping him. Did two for my own rides as well. When I put the new injectors in the way you have to bend them to get em in place had me really nervous even me getting parts at cost they were still 300$ & I just knew they were going to break
