Hello there fine folks I need some direction here with my transmission situation.

I have a 90 k1500 with the 5.7. About 6 years ago I installed an sm465 I had purchased from Novak Conversions. They sent me the bell housing, clutch, hydraulic adapter kit, the works. I had a local shop install it for me (this was before i had the balls to DYI other than replacing oil and CV axles lol).

Now fast forward to the present and after a i sold the truck and then bought it back again (yup she got away and I got her back) she was sadly used and abused. I have been slowly restoring the truck to somewhat acceptable condition and now I need to replace the flywheel, clutch, bearing, all that. My question is how do I find out what I need? Which components are dependent on the transmission and which are dependent on the motor and so on.

This week all my front end parts are being delivered (every bushing, ball joint, and tie-rod had been obliterated) but the transmission is loud as hell unless the clutch is fully disengaged, and it hops likes a ******* trying to move from a stop.

Oh and I have no idea what condition the flywheel is in other than when I replaced the starter I noticed missing teeth, so i would like to just handle it while im doing clutch.

Lastly I mostly just search the forums, get the info I need and continue on my way. If im posting this question in the wrong place, please direct me to where general questions are best suited. I will be posting a build thread sometime soon. Its nothing fantastic (no SAS or custom fab stuff) but its more akin to a restore than a custom build aside from minor cosmetic stuff)

This is pretty textbook clutch destruction. That will be dependent on the transmission, so search around for Muncie clutch kits.

Hey thanks for your reply. I purchased a clutch and now it's sitting till I find a place suitable to change it. Another odd thing is if I'm in neutral and let the clutch out it kind of moves forward slightly like it's just baaaaarely in gear....only on level ground of course. Strange though to say the least.

You should be able to swap out the ring gear when you change the clutch. You will need a torch and a block of wood and you can swap it out in ten minutes.

When you get it pulled apart don't be surprised if your throw-out linkage is destroyed. Hopefully this is just friction material and age causing you problems, but it sounds more and more like you've got worse problems than just age.
