The light on my 99 Tahoe 4WD button goes out after driving a short distance. But it comes back on if I press again frequently. Any thoughts?

If you mean the orange indicator light (versus the backlights) mine had a cracked solder joint on the bulb. The indicator light would go on and off. I could push on the sides of the switch and it would come on.
Opened up the switch, reheated/melted the solder to seal the cracks. Works fine
Thanks guys; that did it.Mine does that as well. The 2wd light works fine. 4hi will stay on for an inderminate period of time. Maybe 15-30 mins, then it goes out. Really bothered me the first time it happened because I was on a snowy mountain hiway waaaaay out in the middle of nowhere with no cell service. There doesn't seem to be any loss of actual 4wd so while it still bugs me, I have learned to live with it. This has been going on for three years.
Thats what I figured. All the solder joints on these trucks will fail eventually due to the change to low lead solder in the mid 90's. The wiper motor boards are usually the first to go, followed by the door locks and the HVAC head.
