how to bypass the security

The resistor replicates the magnetically operated switch that senses the rotation of the key tumbler. The resistance range that was acceptable was something along the lines of 1k-13k ohms. I used the 2.2k because it was easily accessible here in town. When you do the relearn withe the new resistor in there, it will use the new resistance value from then on out.

thats cool. when i did it my battery died and i had to hook up to my wifes car for the 30 minutes it took. actually longer than 30 minutes because i had to do it twice

Great, thanks for the quick reply! My new to me '99 K3500 wouldn't start, flashing Security light a last Monday. Had to wait til Saturday to dig into but when I checked it out it started up and has been fine since. I'd like to do the bypass so I don't have to worry about it happening again.
