Yea, I'm not ready yet for a swap, and hopefully wont be for a good while, but I was thinking a 383. I have seen them on Summits sight. I have bought from summit several times, and have always been happy with them. I would like to get into the 400 HP range. I just can't make up my mind on doing a carb swap, or just keeping the CPI. If I was to go carb, I would go with a 700R4, and if not then keep the 4L60E. Ether way, I would do a performance trans build.
if you wanna make 400 i would carb swap and trans swap or get a stand alone controller for trans. the cpi just doesent make good number no matter what you do to it. instead of carb swapping you could always do an efi setup and still make more power than cpi. my truck club is only 88-98 chevys about 15 or more and no one with cpi makes good power. im doing a stock rebuild because my big ass tahoe will never be fast

I have a big block TBI throttle body with 80 lb injectors and a bored out small block intake for sale if you want to want to swap the CPI for TBI.

So I’m selling the truck with the 383 to help pay for another truck. I can’t find the info packet that came with the engine, the sales invoice from Summit Racing when I purchased the engine, or the invoice from the shop that did the install. Is there a label or tag on the block, or any way to identify the engine as a legitimate Blueprint engine?

there is a serial number on the side with a metal tag adhered...with that serial # we can tell you what it was when it left the facility. Your only issue is if someone changed things along the line.

The only thing changed with the engine since purchase and install has been the oil. I’ll pop the hood and see if I can spot the tag. Supposed to snow this weekend (finally!) so it may slow me down but I’ll try to find it.

The quest for 400 HP is easy. linked below. As you're pointing out, it's the configuring the rest of the vehicle, with the electronic trans to hold up, and work with it.

if you go carbed, you'll need a stand alone trans controller.

if you re-use the factory TBI, you're asking alot of it to feed 400 HP. even after a tune. those flow around 550 cfm no?

if you go with one of our versions with aftermarket EFI, those can sometimes be tied into the existing GM setup to give the trans the TPS and such it needs to operate.

we can make anything work, you'll just find your next weak link in a hurry. don't forget a higher stall converter when you're beefing up that trans.

you are correct. it just kills me when i see people put an awesome motor in the truck and put the cpi back on because they dont wanna get into all the wiring or computer related stuff.
