Fuel gauge works on a fill up. After about 40 miles, it starts to bounce a tiny bit but still moves down. At about half, it bounces and doesn’t move at all but works when I fill up again.
I know it’s common on these types of vehicles.
What could it be and how can I fix it because I’m not finding anything based on the specific problem.

Mine would fluctuate as well that I started keeping a log book. Figuring the mpg from all around driving, 13.7 mpg’s which is around average I think. However amount of gallons I put in I would calculate how many more miles I could go. I finally got around to changing the fuel pump ring gasket. Cause it would spill gas when I filled it up. I was inspecting the fuel pump and noticed rust on the half moon thing that measures the fuel. Its like a circuit board I guess, cleaned it up some. It doesnt fluctuate as much now, only when the fuel gets below a quarter. Then it jumps to half full on turns or hard braking. Funny thing is when it does jump, another turn would put it back to normal lol.

If the sending unit isn't the issue then it could be the stepper motor in the cluster going out. You can pick them up on amazon or ebay pretty cheap.
