I'd be inclined to install one that used the rear bracket, for no other reason than it is what GM did originally.

Agreed. Although I can't really see a reason that they have those rear studs/nuts. The three bolts that secure it to the front aluminum bracket are going to hold this thing tight.

The reason is for vibration. The aluminum bracket can crack. Just buy new studs if you can't get the old ones out.

Strangely it's the other way around. I can get the studs out of my old pump, that was fairly easy.

Its the new pump. It has bolts instead of studs, and they are frozen in place.

I'm going to a different parts store today, maybe theirs will be usable.

Since I'm deleting the EVO solenoid with a bypass kit, what do I do with the old electric connector? Seems like I should cap it off somehow or zip tie it somewhere.

Special thanks to Skylark and East302, you guys are a huge help!

I should have these old bones living again later this week. Just a few things to bolt back on, flush the crankcase and also coolant system, and drive.

Lol it's amazing how much of a dunce a power steering pump can make you feel.

I got the right one yesterday finally but dang those studs were hard to pull off the old one.

And I didn't know I needed O-rings to seal them up so back to the store lol.

Not to highjack the thread here, but I have a similar story for y’all to enjoy.

Working on a 95 Bonneville 3.8 non S/C replacing the water pump. Seems like an easy job until you realize GM blocked the last bolt with a power steering pulley and it couldn’t be a short bolt, no it’s about two inches long or better (didn’t measure only guesstimated it), so I had to rent a pulley puller to finish the job.

I would love to meet up with some of these vehicle engineering teams and slap the stupid out of them for half the ignorant things that have been created on their behalf.

My current hater issue is the asshat that decided to glue metal to glass and hang a heavy freaking rear view mirror from it.

Lol, haven't had a mirror fall off yet but I'll give it a few days.

Back to the power steering pump, did the bolts finally come out or did you have to find one with studs already in place?
