Ive been looking for a Ford Dana 44 but I've kinda given up as Corporate 10 bolts are a lot easier to find. They're on the passenger side though and Id have to get a new transfer case so the question is how does the transfer case and transmission bolt up and also what would happen to my manual 4x4?

If you find the correct transfer case it will bolt right up. You would most likely have to modify your shift linkage.

I have not put a solid axle under my truck yet because I will not do it with anything other than a dana 60 and they are very $$. If I come across a decent deal that will change. I would not use a 10 bolt if someone gave it to me.

Curious what size lift and tires you are wanting to use? I wouldn't put a 10bolt under the truck, a 44 if you keep the truck close to stock height as possible. It will take time but I'd just be patient on finding the right axle and buy other stuff in the mean time. Also will be a lot easier in the long run than also changing T-cases and such

Finding the correct t case out of a newer square body suv might but marginally easier than finding a ford 44 but not alot easier. Also 10 bolts are junk.

Interesting OPINIONS here
D44 and GM10 are similar axles
They did run the 44 in 3/4 tons with 8 lug outters
You CAN cut and weld the D44 to move the pumpkin over to the other side
There are MANY write ups on this
The divorced T case is always an option
And Advance adapters make an adapter that lets you mate the np208 or even the 205 to the back of the 4l60e
Also there as mentioned is the np241 that came passenger drop
Very rare but they exist

If you’re staying 37” tires and under the D44 will serve you

Ever try to put a 10 bolt axle shaft in a 44? That'll tell you how similar they are.

Just wait and either get a D44 or D60. Took me a couple years to find the Dana 44 I have. It's out if a '79 F250. Just be patient and one will eventually pop up, you have to be fast though, they usually go quick if they have welded wedges or are from a F250.

Oh? So you know then that the inner shaft on the GM10 bolt is larger. And also you know there are a few different spline counts on the GM10 bolt as well . And SURELY you know that the ring gear on the 10 bolt is larger than the D44 right?
I mean you must, being so knowledgeable and all
How many 4x4 rigs have you built?
How many 4 links and general SAS? Where do you wheel?
They’re both good axles why reccomend 1 Ton axles when most people don’t even utilize them
What’s the usage of the rig?
Most people want big tires and a street queen
This isn’t pirate4x and If it was these answers would be flamed
There was no tech provided as to why the GM10 bolt was weaker
Only OPINION
