i put a junkyard kit together a while back and it stays in my truck. ratchets, sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, a pry bar, along with my big dewalt impact, full size jack under the toolbox plus misc fuses, relays, lug nuts, and wire that ive collected from junkyards. everything fits in one of those 5gal bucket orinizers in the toolbox. i also have an assortment box of self tappers, gallon of coolant, trans fluid, oil, ps fluid, brake fluid, and a spare belt (old one) in the tool box. In the cab i have a maglight, bubba rope, ratchet straps, a couple hitches and spare hitch pins. not really must haves but i stay prepared lol

Edit: also have jumper cables

A set of long jumper cables, AAA card, an old Craftsman 94 piece ratchet/socket/wrench/multi screw driver kit with some Allen hex wrenches. Extra coolant. Flashlight, red shop cloths.

For emergencies, I keep more in my 93 full Balzer than that, for sure, but that's a minimum tool set, I think.

Naturally there is a Jack, a spare, and some rope

Alot of great ideas! I have a single Sub Box under the seat with an Amp, so only a small portion is available. So I am planning on getting a drop in toolbox in the bed.

I plan to carry some screwdrivers, simple wrench sets (STD/Metric), socket sets and ratchets, Tire tools, a good pump jack or Bottle Jack, extra parts like fan belts and long wrench to change it, extra headlamps and other bulbs, tie downs for carrying in the bed, some tow straps for helping others, jumper cables and maybe more in the future.

My dad has a toolbox like the one I want in his F350 Dually, and having tools and such available in an instant is great. I believe in being prepared for anything and everything.

10 years ago I did a lot more than I do now, times change and we adapt. I asked this question on a few forums then and got pretty much the AAA answer. In June of 2006 I bought a 2006 GMC 1500 it was a year old AAA wasn't what I needed but I couldn't communicate it to people. AAA didn't help my dads 86 yer old neighbor when his irrigation pump for his garden wouldn't start. That was the day I started carrying starting fluid, emery cloth and steel wool. AAA was not the answer when I was out on my ATV's and had to clean the carburetor, that's when a torch tip cleaner went in the truck. I towed a lot of trailers years ago so I added spare 7 way and 4 flat trailer connectors, 16-14 butt connectors, 16-14 1/4" male and female spade terminals to my kit.

Most of the stuff is a given wrench, socket and screw driver sets, jumper cables, tow strap and so on. I used the GearWrench Career Builder Set 83091 as a guide it has some well thought extras. I also added a few other things along the way 1/2" breaker bar, 1/2" to 3/8" adapter, voltmeter, tire plug set and a lot more stuff.

I 2012 bought my younger brother a 92 Ford F150 with rotted out brake lines about 3 miles from my house. I started that truck and checked it all out with stuff in my truck. I only needed my gas compressor and 6' of 2" pipe to to run my chain through to get the truck back to my house.

I no longer have that truck, I now have a 1997 C3500 with 85K original miles on it. I love that truck and I moved the tool kit to it and added more stuff to the kit.

This is one of my favorite topics and so often the threads die out by the AAA crowd. If you want my full lists feel free to PM me.

All good suggestions I am seeing here. I would add a yoga mat and a poly beach pad. I currently have in my inbed tool box 2 -- 1/2 inch breaker bars and a 3/8 inch one. Set of 1/2 drive impact sockets, a 12 volt impact driver. A stripping/crimping tool made by Stanley that ez strips wires without tugging by just a squeeze with red and black 12 g wires and terminals.

Last year for Christmas my wife bought me a Stanley jump starter box that is compact and has saved me when there was no one around or would stop. It also has a light and usb port on it. And can be charged while driving.
