Shocks wont help support a load. Ive got some gabriel coil over shocks and the dont seem to do anything.
Go with air bags.

So the air shocks won’t do anything An the reason I don’t want to go to a full air bag is that I do do a little off-roading in my truck am don’t want to rip a bag something

They help a little but nowhere near what theyre advertised. I cut alot of wood and usually fill my bed to the top of my toolbox, before i got them it squatted around 4". I havnt measured but it still squats about the same and theyre supposed to be good for 1000lbs. Theres still a couple other options though.

A) you could get a set of leaf packs off of a 3/4 ton or 1 ton. They bolt right in.

B) you could get a new set of springs because yours are probably wore out.

You don't want to use shocks to support anything anyway even if you can. Look how they're mounted. They aren't designed to be used to hold weight.

What size trailer is that?

Thumbing through all these pictures of people towing gets me itching to get my trailer brake module re-wired, 7/4 pin redone, and a decent trailer.

I just towed my hydraulic dump bed 1ton dually 89 dodge ram w/ 5.9 6bt ctd on 18 foot trailer ( about 12,000lbs) using my k1500 96 suburban 6.5td .
All week Ive been moving machine shop equipment.
Besides the lack of power(and thats not even that bad) you barley notice the weight its towing.

I love being able to push the boat in the driveway. Front mount trailer hitches make parking trailers and boats a breeze.
