Installing an aftermarket tach

I ordered a tach and I have a pretty good idea on how to do it but I want to confirm what wire I use to get the room reading. I have a 1991 c2500 with a 305 in it.

Remember you also need a hei tach filter.

i found out the hard way. Had to go back and unhide my install to put this in and then re-hide everything.

I'm surprised it needed a filter on these motors, I just ran mine straight off the purple wire coming from the distributor, tapped power and back lights off the radio harness, and it works fine. '89 C1500 with a 305
