I should add that I like to cruise around and my truck would see very limited time at the track, if ever.

The above, and 700 hp do not compute.

I'm not saying you can't do it, because you can. What I'm saying is that getting to that number is going to give you a temperamental vehicle. You basically want a drag car engine to use on the street. There's a good reason most drag cars get towed to the track.

I understand the number in your head and like many have noted it's going to be a little tricky to cruise around town with good manners at 700 HP...

We have a 468 BBC making an honest 635 HP at the crank on the dyno in our Chevelle. It has a costly set of Brodix aluminum heads a fairly aggressive hydraulic roller cam, long tube headers an intake, 10.5:1 compression and the list goes on... It has fairly good street manners but some of that comes from the 2800 rpm stall converter as well. 700 HP NA from a BBC is not a stretch but I think you'll need to be more selective about your engine internals than an over the shelf crate motor. BTW when we built this car we thought we would take it to the track all the time and the initial setup made 750 HP with the same bottom end but a different solid roller cam. We never did take it to the track much and got tired of adjusting valves so we put the current setup in the engine and it's still plenty strong for the street, plus it still sounds like a beast as well.

Just my two cents.

Just curious why you are also set on a 502 instead of a 572 or even something larger? it'll be way easier to make streetable power with more cubes.

Check out racingjunk.com you should be able to find something that makes 700 on pump gas there.

Idk, something about the 502 just appeals to me.
I'll check out racingjunk as well.

If I had the money, I’d have no problem stuffing a Ramjet 502 in my K2500. I’d have to budget extra funds to replace the tires I would roast on the first road test though. [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

I get the whole different strokes for different folks thing, but you could build a 700hp ls engine, 4l80e and rear end for the money youd have wrapped up in a crate 502 alone. Nevermind the fact that 700hp is borderline useless on the street with stock style rear suspension and will probably require a bit of frame strengthening.

But nothin says cool like a bbc with a fat nasty cam and a 177 blower on top, just sayin

The ZZ620 is the "low" end 572, I've never seen a 502 block that comes with 620 hp from GM but maybe I've just missed it.

The ZZ502 comes with 500-510 hp at the crank. I mean, there are definitely ways to get it to 700 hp, at the point that you're dropping 9k on a new crate engine adding another few grand for forced induction shouldn't be an issue.

A big enough shot of nitrous would get you there temporarily, but since you said it's not for the track that doesn't help you.

If you're getting a used engine from somewhere I doubt it'll be anywhere near 500 hp starting out, which makes things complicated.

What else are you doing to your truck to handle the hp? (rear end, transmission, frame)? Even at 500hp/580 lb-ft that's a significant jump from stock, enough to make some components very unhappy lol.

I'm looking at the crate ratings from summit. On the GM website: Long block is rated at 461 HP. There it depends on the intake. But with 558Lb-ft it will scoot.

As far as transmissions I seen three different ones used behind this monster. TH400 Modified, a 4L80 Modified and a 4L85-E. The 4L80 is a TH400 with a OD. 4L85-E is a factory tranny that was made to go behind this monster and the 572. 454 has the 4L70-E and the T56 for those manual junkies like myself. But for you manual junkies that want a hoped up tow pig then the NV4500 MW3 with a 454 would be awesome. I also know where to get upgrades for the NV4500.
