So basically my 1989 Chevy C1500 doesn't want to run. When you turn the ignition key it cranks and cranks, when you turn the key to the off position it keeps on cranking and to stop it you have to keep moving the key back and forth to the on to off position. Also when it stops cranking it wants to run but it turns off. I already checked spark and fuel, they are good. I also replaced the ignition starter switch (not the key cylinder). I need help ASAP because I need to be able to go to work. Thank You!

You replaced the ignition switch up under the dash that's attached to the column.. make sure that the rod that goes down to it from the upper portion is seating in the correct spot and that the rod is not binding on anything during it's travel.

By you saying it stays trying to start when you turn the key off, and will not stop cranking with out moving the key on and off, it tells me the either the rod is binding or you do not have the switch adjusted properly.

I'm pretty sure I placed the rod in the right place. The switch comes in the "Lock" position and I put the ignition cylinder also in the lock position. Either way it did that before I even replaced it.
