Thumbin through this thread is killing me, I want to tear into my 454 and spruce it up a bit, give it a little more grunt for DD'ing,

And the oil issue could be caused by a block off port in the oil cooler maybe? I remember reading about some port that when attempted to be bypassed to delete the oil cooler lines caused a blockage of oil to the rocker arms;

Did you use any silicone or gasket sealant when you put the engine together? Did some google searching of the problem and saw that in some cases a piece of silicone would get lodged in an oil passage.

I checked out a couple of mild cams on comp cams website last night. They all said that you have to change the rocker arms to an adjustable style? Does anyone make a cam that is just a stock replacedment with no other mods required? This truck is my daily driver so I don't need to go crazy but I could really use some extra towing power for the mountain passes we have around here. I'll be interested to see how much a straight through muffler, cat delete, and 3" tail pipe gain me.

After rebuilding my engine with a cam i've realized that a cam upgrade is a can of worms.
I would suggest checking your compression and only go down the cam road if you need new head gaskets or a fresh top end. If not, I would leave the cam in and start looking for a supercharger on ebay, that is the most efficient way of making more power.
If you decide to replace the cam, you'll need the adjustable rocker setup, which isn't difficult to install nor expensive, though I wasn't able to use the poly locks as suggested, i guess the ones i got were too short, but there is a risk of the taller ones of clearing the valve covers.
You may also need new valve springs depending on cam.
And a tune, I've found, is not as easy or cheap as you would think :rofl:

Ok so I've been busy coaching football and trying to figure out why I have no oil to the top of the motor at rocker arms ???? Can a yonehelp with suggestions as to what it could be ?
Did you put in aftermarket pushrods or lifters?
Could be one of them are blocked, or a cam bearing isn't lined up with the oil hole.
Or as Tom mentioned silicon blocking an oil passage at the rear main, though you'd have like no oil pressure anywhere if that were the case.

Wouldn't be a cam bearing, the lifters get their own galley which feeds through the lifters, pushrods, then out all over the inside of the rocker covers. My geuss is gunky sludgey lifters or oil galleys. You did ream them out when you built your motor right?

New comp cam and lifters new longer pushrods to match new aluminum heads. New roller tip rocker arms. Everything in the entire engine is new except the block

The guy who assembled it has assembled many engines for me without any trouble I'm sure he cleaned the block thoroughly
