Now i'm looking at tuning options.
I'd like to do it myself, but seems like EFILive is dependent on some lame handheld thing.
If I can find a cable and software for my laptop i'll be set.

Hp tuners is what I use, I like it. I'd be able to help some if that's the route you go. I think supercharged111 uses efilive. If you're looking to spend money to have it tuned, just buy the software. And it probably wouldn't hurt to do a crank relearn.

Should I do a crank relearn? It seems to idle ok, given it's still un-tuned.
If the EXAM ain't throwing a code, and the drive readiness monitors aren't set... Don't worry about it.

I've gotten the code before though while driving and after resetting it came right back the next time I started the engine. Come to find out the terminals in the dizzy cap corroded and the flakes and power from them (summit brand, they were aluminum) collected all over the position sensor in the dizzy. It read the CMP between 1.5 to 5° and thought my dizzy was going out. After I cleaned that junk out and put a new MSD cap/rotor on it stayed at 1° and varied only about .5°.

Only if you swap computers are you really going to need to worry about a crank relearn. You can get the dizzy offset close enough via TORQUE/dash command

I'm looking in to the 411 pcm swap eventually, i think it runs good enough without a tune until I can do the swap then I'll tune after.
Hp tuners looks like the way to go.

I had to tow it last night after the electrical system shut down while I was on my way home.
Sucks that I just got it running, but of all the things to fail after my rebuild, I'll be happy if its just an alternator

You may not want to put it off too long, with the extra airflow of the new cam it might lean out at WOT. Part throttle should be fine since the o2s can correct for that.

Like everything suddenly went dead? Ground issue?

I think I might just be stupid and forgot to plug in the alternator wiring harness.
Too much mental energy went to the engine rebuild, not enough left over to remember to plug in the alternator.

The volt meter steadily dropped to nothing as i drove down the freeway, i made it a few miles, then had to be jumped, then died again on the way back.

Thinking about it today I specifically remember only hooking up the one main wire to the alternator and thought it was weird there weren't more. While looking up alternator upgrades today i noticed that people have a wiring harness to plug in.
Then I thought.. ****.:rotflmao:
