I am replacing the high pressure PS hose on my K2500, and I'm getting interference with the low pressure hard lines coming out of the steering box outlet for the cooler. The high pressure hard line on the steering box side is hitting the hard lines for the cooler. I purchased a replacement low pressure line too, but its for a no cooler application. Has anyone had any issues with removing the cooler from the system, or should I just get more creative and create the space needed for the high pressure hard line?

Keep the cooler. Even if it's not hot outside it's still good to have. The oil will heat up while driving. If you can bend it without putting any kinks into the tubing that would be best.

New pump and high pressure line are in, but I can’t get the system to bleed and function all the time. After a few lock to lock turns it will feel like the PS is working, but then it seems like the pressure won’t hold. I have the front end jacked up and turning it lock to lock with both engine not running and running and doesn’t seem to get any better. Hopefully it’s just being a PITA to bleed and I didn’t screw anything up during install.

Tried the bleeding protocol a few more times and now I only have no power steering at idle or low speed, when the engine RPM is below about 1000. Above that, the steering is very smooth and almost effortless. Could I have gotten a bad pump? It’s a reman AC Delco unit from RockAuto. I also filled it with PS fluid when I had it back together. Did I cause an issue using PS fluid when I should have used Dex3 ATF?

Flushed the system with new PS fluid this morning and bled again, still no assist at idle. No leaks and it works very well off idle though.

No the fluid looks good, little discolored from some of the old fluid but not cloudy. I wonder if a bunch of junk left in the system gummed up the flow control in the pump?

I'm going to pull the pump back out and compare the flow control valve to the one in the old pump. Something can't be right...
