I have a 1992 with auto trans. How many shifts should I feel under normal acceleration to say around 60mph. I swear it's not shifting out. Or geared stupid cause at 60 I feel like I'm way go high rpm.

4 gears then the converter should lock once its up to temp. Whats the rpm and what gear ratio do you have?

Should be 3 shifts through 4 gears. Have you checked the RPO codes to see what gears you have, or should have? My truck in 5th gear with 4.10 gears is about 1900 RPM @ 60 MPH.

Unfortunately well before i bought the truck the kid i got it from replaced glove box door and did not know to keep sticker. also the doors have been repainted so those stickers as well are gone. Whats it feel like when the tc locks up? I feel 3 shifts and at 60 mph my rpm's are like at 2400. Gearing maybe?

Could be 4.56 gears or your TCC isn’t locking in 4th gear. Do you happen to have a trans temp gauge? If it’s getting really hot, it’s probably the converter not locking.

No trans temp gauge. Would i be able to feel something like the tc locking? any other signs i can look for or feel. The fluid isn't burnt smelling or sticky like a overheated transmission.

when the converter locks it pretty much feels like it goes into a 5th gear if your foot is in the throttle. so when your cruising 60mph, with the truck warmed up and in 4th gear, can you get on the gas (without downshifting) and the rpms go up a couple hundred rpms, without gaining speed? or do the rpms stay the same?

At 60mph if I ease on gas it gains speed proportional to rpm. Speed goes up so does rpm. Is that a answer that will help?

If you're cruising at 60mph watch the tach and tap the brake pedal just enough to hit the switch for the brake lights. As soon as you touch the brake pedal it sends a signal to unlock the torque converter and the rpms will jump up a few hundred rpms, then if you release the brake a few seconds later it will lock back up and drop the rpms again.

So if I can believe the rpo codes I did find. It's a gt4. Which is 3.73. Gonna have to get a hei tach filter so I can watch for super small changes in rpm to test it
