When I go to use my wipers it is a crap-shoot. Some times they'll work perfectly, other times they might not shut off for several minutes. I have intermittent wipers on a 1996 suburban. The wipers will always turn on, but may not turn off.

Wipers on any speed except high:
  • low speed - continuous (intermittent settings are ignored)
  • no squirter
  • parks in random location on windshield after a random number of passes.
Wipers on high:
  • high speed - continuous
  • no squirter
  • parks in random location on windshield after a random number of passes.
It is aggravating because bug guts, bird crap, etc get smeared instead of cleared. Thoughts?

Yep, wiper module, if you are a cheapskate like me, sometimes these can be repaired if you know your way around a soldering iron. Unplug the module and remove it. Inspect the soldered joints that come through the board. Usually the solder will crack and all u have to do is heat the solder to repair it.

Yeah, I am good with soldering, but I think I'll just replace it for the $22 from AutoZone.

Just resolder the points where the harness socket attaches to it. You'll find the worst one is the ground (first one at the edge.)

The original board is way better than any Chinese replacement from the auto parts store, and it costs you nothing to fix it if you've already got soldering gear.

The replacement went in and is working fine. Amazing how different if looks converted from TH to SM soldering. Kinda funny actually because the original took up the whole PCB and the new one..... not so much LOL.

Thanks for the Help. It was a 10 minute repair.

Forgive my ignorance, i'm having the same issue with my wipers. Where is this module located? On the engine firewall? Under the dash?

Which module is it? The wiper control module? or the wiper motor pulse board module?

On the firewall drivers side. Big metal box with an electric motor hanging off the side. Unscrew the cover, unplug and take the pcb out, resolder all the joints, put it back and feel good about not spending money on something you can fix yourself.

I have the same issue with mine, sometime my wiper do not turn on. I have to tap the box. But I think I'm goign to re-solder the points and fix this once and for all.
