Ok so I have a 97 c1500 with a 5.7. So the past month or so I would go to start it and ever once in awhile the starter engages but wouldn't spin. Naturally I thought it was the starter so I replaced it. I got2 days out of it. Then now it won't crank at all but I hear the starter is engaging. Battery voltage is 12.5v I've tried jumping the terminals and it does the samething. With it on the truck or off the truck I'm so lost with it rightnow. all the fuses in the truck are good too. I unplugged the light bar and the amps to see if maybe that was it but nothing is helping the only time I can get it too slightly spin is jumping the battery with another truck

Do a voltage drop across the positive cable to the starter. Shouldn't be more than .5 to 1 volt.

Well I got it to start after messing with it all day yesterday I don't what was up with it everything was good from the switch to the computer fuse box and battery cables I finally just took the battery to AutoZone so they can test it and they said it was fine so I put it back in and tried one last time before I was gonna call aaa and get it towed home 56 miles and it started like nothing was wrong. It hasn't had a problem I've probably have started it 10 times today to see if I can get it to do it again so I can really check it now that its home and can't get it to do it

What's weird is i unhooked the battery at least 3 times for a good 30 mins and put it back on tight and cleaned the connections every time just to be safe

I had an issue with my 90 Sierra where the cables had corroded under the coating that's on them. I have no idea how but they did. Cleaning the contacts at the battery and elsewhere just wouldn't solve the issue. I replaced the cables and all has been good now for about 5 years.

Have you checked the coolant? The motor that was previously in our truck leaked coolant slowly into the #8 cylinder, and had very similar symptoms to what you describe. It would occasionally run rough on start up (though no every time), until eventually it hydrolocked. The entire time the coolant was clean, but we thought it was a pin hole leak in the radiator.
