Today was a nightmare...

Started the morning by unloading the 4Runner and disconnecting the trailer, and start doing a few things to the truck. Dumped gas in the tank (Tyler's funnel idea worked pretty well!), fix the shifter boot, connect some wires laying around, install the starter, and that was about it. For some reason I think the ignition switch in the truck is going bad because when you go to crank it then stop, the truck continues to crank. As a temp fix we ran a switch below the headlight switch that you hold to run the starter which actually works pretty well. Had to use some self tappers to keep the headlight switch in place which I hate doing but at least now it isn't going anywhere. Painted the bezel while I had it off, the rest of the dash and doors will eventually be black due to fading. The 89 ECM I bought has the wrong connectors to the harness too so back to the stock ECM in this thing.

So then we take a trip to Reno, start off by returning the ECM at pick n pull, I go out to the yard to see if by happen chance I find a 93/94 with a 4.3 and a 5 speed. Nope. Found a 350 and a 5 speed but that wouldn't work since I have a 4.3 which blows. So I leave with nothing. Go to Napa next and get the proper u joint listed in a previous post. Then In N Out burger before heading back. I did see something funny at pick n pull though, a wood throttle body spacer!

I thought for sure we would be having this thing running and driving tonight, and in a rush for time I took a mirror off a spare door I had so I didn't have to pull the door panels off to install the 95+ mirrors in sake of time and the goal to finish this tonight. Tyler installs the conversion joint to the yoke and driveshaft with a perfect fit. HOWEVER, the rear u joint to the axle is not the correct joint. How, I have no idea because we didn't change it and the caps just slide around in the pinion. Tried other caps and whatnot from stuff laying around with absolutely no luck. The old u joint was original so it was ruined when we took it out and could not reuse it. At this point the truck is almost ready to go minus this u joint issue, and it is about 7:30 at this point. I found out that in Reno O'Rilley's closes at 9, so we make another trip to the closest one. Pick up a u joint with the inner clap things, but they didn't have the straps needed for the u joint, so they refer us to the next closest store. We go there at 8:30, and they didn't have them in stock either. They refer us to another store so we get there at 8:50, and that store didn't have the right straps either. We looked at the other kind of u bolt straps too but they only had one in stock and it was way too wide. The employee brought out several different u joints and I bought four different ones and the strap kit. Return back to the truck, and sure enough, every single one could not be held in place. The straps cover where the inner retention ring would go making those useless, and there are no tabs on the pinion to hold a retention ring on the outside so the whole drive shaft just slides left to right.

So I'm like whatever, removed the pinion from the axle and Tyler is taking them to Bayshore in Reno tomorrow when he gets off work to see what they can do. This u joint stuff is such BS. And it is over a stock part not even a conversion joint.

I still wanted to finish a few things up on the truck and the first one was making it run. It runs on ether just fine, but I'm thinking the reason it's not running on it's own is because the fuel pump is bad. The fuel gauge is pegged past full and even jumping the connector for the pump it does nothing. With that said, we have an in-line powered fuel pump laying around that we will probably install, as well as install a manual fuel pump switch next to the manual starter switch. I would rather have everything be stock in the ignition but the manual switches worked fine for a time crunch and it's just becoming more like a race truck!

So there is my novel on this thing for the weekend. Massive PITA.

Another little update. We are getting the proper u joints tomorrow. I had to haul out my old 94 6.5 because it was sitting on my trailer still, so I'm going to rob a few more things from it then to the junkyard it goes. Has a working e brake pedal and some other little interior stuff.

Picking up a 94 ECSB k1500 for $100 that is stripped of some stuff but has a 4.10 14b semi floater that is going in this 93. Then converting the front to 6 lug as well. Also has a 350 in it that blew a head gasket and a good 4l60e. Good parts truck! Taking the rpm cluster for my truck too.

4.10s are probably super unnecessary but I'm doing it since I will have the axle. Better do good burnouts!

Another little neat thing. The factory radio decided to work tonight and the PO said it hasn't worked since like 2005. It automatically turned on when I turned the key on, plays the radio fine but the front speakers are super blown.

That's what @Goose 3406 said on my 89 k2500 with this photo! But no I never have seen that movie, maybe I will watch it now!

This truck was one that I bought for mainly the 6.5 in it for my old 94 ECSB 6.5, I gave it to a kid so he could have the leaf springs and trailer hitch but he never got around to taking it off, and I need my trailer back this weekend so I just took it back. Everything in the bed is going to scrap, maybe I'll see about selling the frame or doing something with it. It's a 94 ECLB c2500 8 lug frame. I'll be stealing some stuff from it though! The 94 I'm picking up this weekend is much more complete.

----

Other news, I wanted to try out the black paint I had for vinyl, and ended up trigger happy to paint the dash. I like it, hides all the dash fade. When I go to finish it up I'll mask the windshield to finish the dash and I will do the door panels when they come off for the 95+ mirrors. Figured it would be something different with black stuff. It may look like **** but it's a race truck not a show truck :)

Tyler picked up the correct u joint today from Bayshore and it is a Spicer 5-212x which is listed as a conversion joint. Tyler installed it and said it all fits great! I am heading out there tomorrow after work, all I need to do is install an in line fuel pump and start it then it can be driven. Coolant is crusty so I need to flush everything several times over. I have a list of plans for this weekend after I pick up the 94, also planning on using the RPM cluster from that 94 and putting it in this truck! I have Saturday and Sunday to kill :)

Another little update tonight! Got it to idle okay with this ingenious idea. Turned it just enough for fuel to idle, if I hit the throttle it would die. Fuel pump is shot 100% and the green truck I'm getting tomorrow has one so I'll probably cut a hole in the bed of the race truck to change them. Might as well make it easy since in the future I am bound to install a high performance pump.

Also, there was a 97 grand caravan junker on the property with dual electronic fans. I am so taking these to put on this truck.

Hopefully tomorrow is the day I drive it!!

Took the carpet and trim piece from the 94 6.5 and painted the trim piece then installed them in the truck. Finished painting the dash too it's looking better!! The other 94 the guy told me I can't get it today so whatever I'll get it next weekend.

Going to Susanville now to pick up a fuel pump. Got the price dropped from $195 to $113. Going with the hole in the bed idea.

More updates to come!
