Hello everyone I own a 89 c1500 5.7 tbi motor. I've owned for a little over a few years and every since I bought it the truck would take awhile to start(long cranking) and sometimes it will die on its own. So far I've replaced the coolant temp sensor(next to thermostat),FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR,IAC,EGR VALVE,MAP SENSOR,FUEL FILTER AND CAP,ROTOR,PLUGS. And it still has a long crank and still dies occasionally. It never dies when I'm driving.just if I'm parked letting the truck idle. I've also check my fuel injectors and those seem to be spraying Ok so my next step is to check the fuel pressure. I DONT HAVE ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS.Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-john.ON A SIDE NOTE THERES A GREEN WIRE UNPLUGED NEAR THE RELAY BLOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FIREWALL

Check your base timing. If it is too low then the iac can't compensate. It should be 0 degrees btdc with the est connector unplugged. The connector is a single wire located between the distributor and the plastic cover where the fuel pump relay and fuse are located. If I recall correctly it is a tan wire with a black stripe.

On tbi trucks the oil pressure sensor is a backup to the relay so a truck will start even with the relay unplugged.

There is one behind the dist. I had to change the one in my 90 Sierra just over a year ago. It's a real $itch to get to.
