SO if you were planning on Boosting a 5.7 vortec with a ProCharger running 8-9lbs with 36lbs spider poppets, 1.6 roller rockers, and springs. Would it be beneficial to change out the vortec intake for the GM Ram Jet style or Edelbrocks ProFlo XT? I didn't think it would matter since its going to have air shoved in

I have a question. You cover supercharging the engine, but what if I wanted to turbocharge my 5.7L Vortec? Is it basically the same as the 'Supercharging' paragraph?

I'm idk if anyone mentioned this cause I skipped to the end of the thread. There is a cpfi to mpfi direct fit for vortec engines with no changes to the intake manifold. So you get actual injectors for it and I have seen all they way up to 64lb injectors on eBay of you have this swap.

Some self learned tips for the 96-98...
new old stock fuel pumps, terrible. Just swapping the whole assembly for anything built after 2008 is a noticable power gain. Once fuel average is at 17mpg or so.. you'll know when you got that right anyway. (my own creeped up to 22-24mpg in the summers- that is NOT good)

Another oddity.. the ignition is thrown off by unequal length wires. After swapping my fuel pump, I was getting an oblong sounding idle out of my nv3500 bearings making their noise. I have 30 years with a smallblock and made a beeline to the wires.
the first year obd2 is quite a rock. :) (it knows there is short and long wires). I by chance swapped a bad wire out for a whole kit I made myself (8.8mm accel - yes expensive), equal length. I'll be darned.. you might think it was an LS coming.
20 below and cold starts.. kaboom. Very confident.

the lighting circuit.. go LED. Just the front parking is a hog enough to steal the computing power. That chore was not about looking pretty at night.

the last thing I found was factory perforated mufflers, especially temperate climates. The little holes fill in with rust leaving a nice looking muffler from the outside. These trucks are a real case for flowmaster or other good brand. Not to make noise, but to fix a problem.

I'm not buying the unequal plug wire length deal. Electricity travels basically at the speed of light. An additional foot of wire wouldn't make a difference. Now a bad wire, is another issue

Nice thread! Like the separation between Throttle Bodies and Vortecs. It is from my understanding that 94-95 TBI don't have the holes set up for roller rockers?

Hello. I'm new here and new to modifying f.i. engines. I have a 2000 k2500 sas crew cab sitting on 35's with the 5.7l vortec and 4l80e. Obviously it needs more power! I have a 400 ci small block with world products sr torqer heads 2.02/1.60.
Can I add a Holley stealth ram power pack kit to the 400 and it will work with the 2000's computer and transmission? and will the alternator and ac compressor work with this style intake and heads? which size injectors should i use ? I will be rebuilding the 400 with roller cam and 9.5 ish compression looking for maximum torque .
Please and thanks in advance for any advice!

I know this thread is ancient, but I'm new to the forum. That is a ton of useful information, thank you. I feel like I should have to pay for that.

Same here, just bought a super clean 1998 Z71... Gonna turn it into an Overlanding rig. I need to lift a few inches, squeeze on some 315/70/17's and re-gear with some 4.56's.
Overtime I will probably build an aluminum headed motor to replace the still strong but long in the tooth 5.7 with 300K.
