What would the most likely automatic transmission in a 1995 GMT400 with a 5.7l v8. The guy thinks it is a 700r4. It won't shift past 2nd gear. I have not gone and looked at it yet, but the price looks right. It is a ecsb step-flare side truck. I was looking for a SCSB truck, but I have opened my options a little.

That's better I think... I have read that's like a one year tranny. Is it junk to start with or would a swap be in order?

4L60 e is the electronic version of the 700r4. I have rebuilt a few 700's, but not up on the workings of the 4l60e to say if it was a solenoid, clutch pack, or valve body issue. maybe somebody else will chime in.

More than likely the 3-4 clutches but I could be wrong. The 4L60e is the same as a 700r4 except for the valve body. I believe 93 was the introduction to solenoid shifting and then 95 was when they introduced the pulse width modulated torque converter lockup.
The 700r4/4L60e is not junk necessarily but requires everything in good working order. The 4L60e uses engine sensors such as throttle position and manifold pressure for controlling internal hydraulic line pressures. A failure of one of those three can reduce hydraulic pressure and burn up clutches similar to an incorrectly adjusted TV cable on the 700r4.
