I did a Superior kit. Very simple and effective. New fluid won't cause your trans to slip, that's an old wive's tale. Shift kit reduces wear so theoretically extends its life. No reason not to do one now.

I've been pricing out Trans-Go and B&M shift kits; I'm going to run a Mag-Hytec regardless because of all the benefits of them,

Let the record go to show; Red is a B_I_T_C_H to match. I think this needs at least 2 or 3 more coats, and then cleared before it'll match the truck, I need to really clean the damn thing too so I can get everything taped off and the flares painted black.

Looks pretty good man. Love gmc grilles. I will have one, eventually lol.

Thanks! I was searching for one in my usual pull-a-parts I haunt and didn't find a thing worth my time, I decided to go to an LKQ yard across the city, walk in and see this near mint OEM grill first thing, walk a little further and find a Denali that gave me a fog-light switch, then an Escalade that gave me a 120 speedo, not to mention all the other little tid-bit things I tend to hoard like underhood storage boxes, switch bezels and switches; luckily I stopped after the grille and panel, fog light switch, and Esky cluster :Big Laugh:

Shoulda snatched up the denali woodgrain trim. People would pay for that stuff if it was in good shape.

Thought about it, I'll probably go back this weekend and see if I can't get a console out of either the Denali or Esky, everything looked taken apart but appeared to be complete;
The woodgrain is interesting, I never knew those were in such high demand.

I wouldn't say high demand but people who like woodgrain in their 400s will snatch those door panels and bezels up.

I'll throw in my $0.02 on manifolds vs shorties vs long tube headers. Most comparisons I've ever researched show very little gain in performance over manifolds. I won't disagree with you on the pain in the butt factor of long tubes, especially on a 4 wheel drive truck. If you haven't committed yet, consider spending that money elsewhere.

What kind of performance is going to satisfy you. If you're not going to be satisfied until you can keep up with the 800 lb•ft diesel guys, better save up for a whipple kit and tranny upgrades. If you just want more off the line grunt, drop your axle ratio as low as you can and bolt on a gear vendors overdrive.

Going from 3.73 gears to 4.88 gears is a 30% increase in torque throughout the entire powerband. Think about that. Flip on the OD and you're back to a 3.80 ratio for cruising. Check out the RV salvage yards for used ones, then you'll just need the transfer case adapter.

Thanks for the advice! I don't want a ridiculous amount of power, I think it's all in the servicing and stock tune as to why it feels down on power, there's still some fluids I need to refresh and a few filters I need to change, along with a slew of sensors; and really the whole reason behind wanting shorties is not only to let the engine breath a little better and ease of installation, but to also lower under-hood temps, my BB stays hot as hell for a few hours, and in my research it's because of the manifolds; the Gear Vendors is interesting, I've only ever seem folks do 2WD trucks, I've never seen a 4WD truck with one.
