It is not the chain because the chain is not used when in 2wd, only in 4 hi/low. On some of these transfer cases there is a snap ring on the output shaft in transfer case that holds it in place and if it breaks the output shaft will slide out of the drum in the transfer case which will cause the truck to feel like the transmission is no good. If that is not the problem then a shaft in transfer case broke. If it is the snap ring, put it in 4 wheel hi and the truck should move, if it doesn't check to make sure the front differential lock is working if it is equipped.Just bought a 89 k3500 454tbi single wheel. Was pulling a trailer when I had to stop then when I went to go again I heard a pop and now it won't go anyway. The fluid is good and when you change into gears you hear the rpm drop a little but it still won't move. When you go put it back into park it makes a horrible grinding noise. I just dropped the pan and no chunks or anything and the tranny fluid looks bright red and good. What the heck is going on?! Do I need a new tranny? Could it have something with the transfer case? Also I towed it about 1/2 mile while it was physically in the position "park".
