My 1990 k1500 5.7 truck has some issues with the 700r4.Great truck with a new crate motor I swapped in last summer but the 700r4 has 189k on it.First issue has been happening for a year or so.Sometimes the tranny spits out fluid through the dipstick hole when full.No I didn't over fill it.So then I got a locking dipstick and it now spits fluid at the dipstick pan hole threw the grommet. It just spits out about a half qt max.So now I started towing my double jet ski traler I just bought and it spit out a lot more fluid threw the dipstick pan grommet hole after a 160 mile trip. The last issue now after refilling the fluid to full the next day is....Now it late shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 30mph and 2nd to third at 50 mph.The TV cable is adjusted properly. These late shifts are hard shifts and don't really change in relation to giving it more gas.I might just throw on a new reman 700r4 and a new TV cable and call it a day.Just wasn't sure if maybe the TV cable is stretched or the goveror is going out.I have never changed the fluid since it has so many miles on it and I don't know the last owners tranny oil change historty. Thanks for the help,Dan.

I've heard of older transmissions throwing fluid out the dipstick, mostly older stuff though. There should be a short vent tube on the top of the case that points downward. Get a stiff pipe cleaner and ream that tube a few times. "Might" solve your problem. Been a while since i've worked with a 700r4.

Well the vent tube had a clogged rubber hose on it.Removed it and couldn't blow through it at all.Still shifts into second at 30 mph though.I hope I didn't screw up the tranny towing with the vent hose plugged up.
