Oh my gawd! You've seen that too? It's amazing that people think those Cummins are worth gold.

Oh yea, every time i'm looking for one, the body will be thrashed, high miles, but it'll be little lifted and bigger tires an ppl will buy em. I need to find one so it sucks. Not spending that much when my 2012 would onky be 20k trade an maybe 25k private. So my crew cab plans are on hold.

Yeah I hear ya, sucks when they are so much when the rest of the truck is crap. Oh well, let's hope someday they will be cheaper. :)

Everyone's oogling over the keyless entry, but it has a power rear sliding window???? :D FYI if the fob was dealer installed, it probably looks like my 93 under the dash, a huge mess of wires!
True power rear window would be sick. My dads 88 K5 had that I thought it was cool

That is interesting why they would both just about be identical with options. I don't know what GM was thinking back then lol. I think they have gotten better with placing their items in the right categories, but maybe I haven't built some of the packages yet on their website, I do build trucks on their website occasionally when I have some free time, just to see how it would be if I were super rich. ;) :D
I thought I was the only one that did that, built everything from a corvette to a suburban, can only dream though...

For you younger guys,

....Once upon a time, in a time sadly now a long time ago, you could order a vehicle optioned just about any way you wanted it...

"You want a K1500, Z71, Extended Cab, longbed, w/ F44 Suspension-14 bolt SF, GT4/3:73.1, G80/Posi, 5 speed manual, LO5 350, hydro boost brakes, no-A/C, manual windows, manual locks, Leather buckets, vinyl floor cover (no carpet), roof marker lights, and radio delete?
Sure Thing Pal... that'll be $XXXXX.xx"

Forced Option Groups/ Trim Packages pretty much became a mandatory thing in the later half of the 90's. It used to be that you chose your regular production options (RPO), if you ordered a new car/truck. There were some forced options, but they were usually tied to weight/towing/cooling/safety/powertrain combos. You could order as few, or as many options as you wanted. Option Groups/Trim Packages were how you could save money or add looks/performance. When GM bundled options together, it made assembly easier for line workers, saved time on the harness assembly, and generally saved GM production time/costs... They passed a small portion of the savings along to the dealer, or smart buyer. Dealers screwed a lot of people who ordered new vehicles by charging regular price for each option, then pocketed the difference for given option groups. Someone at GM realized they could save a lot more time and money by eliminating many of the individual option choices, with "Mandatory Option Groups" and later, "Trim Packages".

I got my fingers crossed its original. I completely forgot to take a pic of the RPO decal in the glove box. I wanted to decode all of them, I do it for fun on all my trucks.

Well said Brother Al, Its a shame the way your forced into buying a truck with options you don't even want, not to mention the ridiculous price tags. My grandfather had a 1988 Chevy Cheyenne, absolutely bare bone work truck. It had the bullet proof 262, old sm465 4 speed, 2wd, AM radio, and the only two gauges were fuel and speedometer. The truck was $9,100 new!! He told me he paid 7,600 for his new '77 Cheyenne too, Not a big difference.

Yes it does... I had a shock when I looked into buying a new 1998 Grand Prix GTP

Something to be said for simplicity in trucks, albeit I recently found out you can buy a new Silverado W/T with almost no options AND minus the Onstar/Satellite Radio system... I wouldnt buy one myself, but it drops the price below the $30K threshold for a new full-size 4x4, if you shop around for dealers stuck with them. Good buy for anyone with a business... if you can justify 30K for a new work truck, anyway.

I would rather just buy a GMT400 WT for cheaper than that, and that has next to nothing. They fancied some of these WT trucks a little too much. Sometimes older is better. :)
