The uhaul trailers don't really allow you to play with placement. They have a ledge for front wheels to set in and get strapped down. Only word of advice I have is watch that trailer wiring. Uhaul wires usually get drug on the ground from people not properly showing them. Shorts real quick. Worked for a short time at a service center for uhaul. Trailer wiring splices on the weekly. Ha

Lol. Reminds me of a 25 kw generator I rented years ago (big heavy *******). Got on the on ramp on the hwy, signaled to pull into the right lane and realized quickly that the left blinker actually controlled the trailer brake. Got pretty squirrelly. Thankfully I was driving a dually.

Jeez yeah that definitely would have made for a scary situation. I'll make sure to check everything thoroughly before setting off!

The last uhaul car trailer I used didn't have electric brakes..... Towed an Accord home using my dad's 2001 1500 suburban. We just drove slow and gave lots of distance between us and other cars.

Most points have been covered. I have towed cars extensively with a 1996 Chevy Tahoe 5.7L, 4WD, 3.73 rear-end, G80 (not really important in this case), and with a Multiport FI upgrade. My trailer is open, dual axle with electric brakes and wood deck. I think it comes in at 1400 lbs. so think your U-Haul trailer weight estimate is high. I do use overdrive ... the transmission seems to know when to down shift. I get about 12-13 MPG with car and trailer attached. Other advice is good ... do your best to have the "right" amount of tongue weight, try for a level trailer (no angle). I have not used surge brakes but would think some additional car over electric brakes is needed. Safe Travels!

Thanks guys! I got the weight rating off the U-haul website, but it definitely does seem high especially noting that the trailer isn't even a full flatbed it's more of a skeleton type deal. 2210 is what they say but still seems high to me. I'll make sure to take it easy and give a lot of stopping distance since we all know the GMT400's brakes are garbage hahah!

I just got done towing my 2000 tahoe 200 miles with my 4.3 5 speed 3.42 truck keeping the speed at about 60 , no problems at all. just take it slow and steady, You are not gonna win any races, but it will do it. BTW the tow rating on a V6 5 speed with 3.42s in only 2500 lbs trailer weight..lol

Pulled a uhaul car trailer with a 91 skyline from seattle to great falls, little over 700 miles, with my 95 k1500. 3rd gear, 70 mph, 8-9 mpg. Truck did great with 4l60e and 3.73s. Stock size 265/75 16 tires. Going up the passes I had to drop to 2nd and hold it to the floor to keep it at 30-40 at a little over 4500 rpms for a few miles. Total weight was around 5500 pounds.

Nice r31! That doesn't seem like it should've gave your truck that much trouble,I just towed my buddies 73 caprice to a shop with my tahoe, same specs as your truck and it had zero problems, car was on a tandem axle trailer too,I never had to downshift, even going up hill(for about 1/2mi)
