Well, today the trans lost 3rd & 4th. I've read on here it's common in the 4L60e. Mines a 95. Any ideas form experience on the rebuild cost might be? Can't call around till tomorrow obviously, just asking so my brain will quiet down.

Well, $1700 later and I have a great running truck again. This trans fought this poor guy the whole way. Everything is new inside the housing, even the hard parts that don't get swapped. I drove this thing for 9 months and it never ran this smooth. Guess the mpg should go up considering the tc was never locking and was slipping between 3-4 the whole time. The numb nut that sold it to me told there was a stall convertor in it, so I chucked the weird swing in rpms to that. My bad. All good now.

Yes the 3/4 clutch pack is the weakest point and usually the first to go. However knowing why is the important part. Reduced fluid pressure from a stretched TV cable needing adjustment was generally the cause in the 700r4. The 4l60e relies on throttle position and manifold pressure to increase/decrease fluid pressure based on engine power output. I've rebuilt a 1994 4l60e that finally lost 3/4 gears after 320k miles and it was a worn accumulator piston that caused it. A $5 part was the root cause and could have been replaced just by dropping the pan.
The point I'm trying to make is that just because the transmission is rebuilt doesn't mean there is not an underlying sensor problem that could possibly take out this transmission in the future.
