Pulled a uhaul car trailer with a 91 skyline from seattle to great falls, little over 700 miles, with my 95 k1500. 3rd gear, 70 mph, 8-9 mpg. Truck did great with 4l60e and 3.73s. Stock size 265/75 16 tires. Going up the passes I had to drop to 2nd and hold it to the floor to keep it at 30-40 at a little over 4500 rpms for a few miles. Total weight was around 5500 pounds.

That doesn't seem right, when mine was stock it would pull double digits with an open deck and even now high single digits with an 8500# enclosed hauler. Then again, the first time I pulled with it I already had it tuned with exhaust. Thing was a turd when I first got it!

The motor in mine truck has 282 thousand miles and its worn slam out, the tbi unit is nasty as hell and needs rebuilt, intake gaskets are gone. Has a very small knock when it starts up the morning cold. Its down on power alot. But I got a 5.3 sitting in the garage so thatll cure those issues.

Ahh, didn't realize TBI. That's probably a factor. Mine has 247k and seems to run strong.

Nice thing about TBI is the low end. ****** part about TBI is when you hit a hill that calls for 2nd gear, there is no top end.

Hey, does your trailer and ruck sit level? I have found if the trailer is not level it creates a lot of drag, got to see this one morning in the fog when the reversing lights stuck on. After we reset the load to sit level it towed a lot better, Just a thought.

See here Lil is just about right, we moved her 2" forward after this pic and it towed so smooth. Lil and trailer here weighed in at 9038#.
BTW, this was the first month we owned Lil, she got towed home 8 times in that month, was a REAL BARGAIN!!

I got 148k on the truck and less than 3k on a crate motor so I'm not real worried bout the engine, tranny is a different story though! I'm gonna be using a uhaul trailer, so it's a matter of finding the sweet spot where the car sits balanced over the wheels?
