I was measuring backlash and it was .008 in the same pic I held the axle in place and I could move the ring gear .04 and then in this pic

I held the ring gear and the gear inside would move .04 I think it's the spider gears??? They look the worst worn Also I measured in the pic how much carrier would move side to side .003

.. so I'm most likely going to order spider gears new bearing kit for Pinon and carrier and also wheel hub bearings.. 460 bucks it most likely has never had any work 200k miles it's probably ready for a rebuild and since the one bearing is out might as well replace em all.. let me know what you think thanks.

Don't forget all the seals and shims.
There's also a company that sells a drop-in limited slip carrier if that interests you. Cost about $450, I think.

It's seems to be a pretty good vice for the money $100 buck or so. 6 inch I just got it. Now waiting on my 20 ton press to arrive to put it back together.

Getting some stuff done I have a shop press that should be getting delivered tomorrow. Plan on getting things back together and finally being able to bolt something on to new frame!

Got my new press today 1st thing I did with it was smashed a pop can lol
Got carrier bearing pressed on. Got the pinion pressed apart and then put back together. But ran into snag........ for 1 DO NOT use exhaust pipe to press on the last bearing and crush sleave . It popped on me and nasty soot from inside the pipe got on my bearings. I think I got it all out but I didn't take it apart.... I ended up cutting the cages off the old Pinon bearings and used them. Worked good. Then can the final tightening I tighten the Pinon nut too much.. around 230 ft lbs. It took like 80 inch lb to turn the pinon. I backed it off a bit and it's right at spec 30 inch lb to rotate. ... the nut is tighten to around 140 ft lb. Do you guys think I could take the nut off slop sum red lock tight on it and roll with it or should I replace crush sleave. ....???

I would replace the crush sleeve but my experience is limited. Maybe if I had done a butt load I would feel differently.

Only had to use 1 crush sleave. It was difficult to set the preload. It takes a lot of force in the press to start crushing... then it takes quite a bit more than 250 ft-lb <that's all my wrench goes up >I'd say close to 350ftlb. to set preload.its hard to keep it in vice..... then slapped it all back in the housing got my back lash set to .007 . The new bearings and spider gears took all the schlop outta it. IL have to wait till I get the axle and brakes functional to set the depth but I went ahead and tried my new cover out. I had always wanted a chrome cover but I hope it don't make it to flashy
