Hello,

I am thinking out doing a door chime swap on my truck. What cars do I need to look for the "ding-ding-ding" sound instead of the "buzzing" sound? And how would I remove the door chime from that car? I know where my truck's door chime is, but I don't know how to do any of the others. If there isn't, the best I would probably do is a 88-94 door chime instead of the 95-98 door chime if I can't find any of the cars mentioned in this thread at the local salvage yard.

Can a door chime from a 99+ work on my truck? If so, how would go about removing it? I would really love this chime in my truck:

Thanks in advance! :)

The trucks after the GMT400 bodystyle used an integrated chime that was part of the body control module. Then in later portion and to the current date they are tied to the stereo and produced from the driver's side speaker.

So no, you can't use one from a newer truck.

What you can do, is find some older (80s) GM cars (caddy, olds, pontiac, camaros) door chimes and swap them directly in. They come in a variety of colored cases which seem to be correspond to the chime sound. I have one in my truck, it sounds similar to the 99-02 GMT800 truck.

Located next to fuse panel under dash on driver's side of any GM vehicle. Grab a few of them, because some have the same buzz that you're trying to replace. I can't remember what vehicle mine is out of, I think an Olds. Stay away from the front drive GM 90's vehicles as those don't plug and play.

I've grabbed three of them from the local yard, they were from a 93 Camaro, 94 Firebird, and a 92 Roadmaster. The Camaro and Firebird ones were dark brown, and had a good sounding ding. The Roadmaster box was lighter brown, and compared to the other two had a slightly off key ding and I didn't like it as much.

If any you fellas are interested in these, I think I may still have a few in my junk box out in my shop. I'd have to check first. I know at one time I had a couple Camaro chimes, a Roadmaster and I think a Caprice.

Ha! What a trip! I forgot that I posted that video about the chime.

If you're thinking about doing the chime box swap, DO IT! You'll regret that you didn't do it sooner!

The chime I used IIRC is from a '95 Camaro (14101255). You're best bet would be checking on eBay for the chime, or the forum.
