yeap, thats the way to do it after its running otherwise youd preload them and then zero lash it.
not necesarily always half turn though, sometimes more sometimes less. i go through all 16, see how its running at a higher rpm and then continue on with readjustment if necesary

Oil dosent get squirted up there? It should. Lots of it.
Did you watch the video? There weren't any deflectors installed either. I thought it was weird myself

his pump was probably tired, it should squirt a ton out

You can take an old set of valve covers, notch out the center just right and they work pretty good as deflectors too
